Beta-glucosidase (BGL) is an enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of cellulose and plays an important role in many biological processes. This enzyme is widely available in animals, plants, and microorganisms. Expression of the recombinant enzyme in Escherichia coli is considered a suitable choice for high production via a fast growth rate and feasible manipulation.

In this study, CNC was isolated from used office papers by means of acid hydrolysis. For CNC/PEO fiber fabrication process, CNC was added to PEO aqueous solution to produce CNC/PEO fibers by electrospinning. In this process, several parameters were investigated, namely PEO concentration, CNC:PEO ratio, the applied voltage, and the distance between the tip and the collector on the morphology of electrospun CNC/PEO fibers.

Cellobiohydrolase (EC 3.2.1.91) is one of the important enzymes involved in cellulose hydrolysis. In this study, the gene sequences encoding cellobiohydrolase were extracted from the metagenome DNA data of microorganisms surrounding white-rot fungi in Cuc Phuong National Park based on the KEGG database. 73 ORFs encoding cellobiohydrolase were obtained, of which 15 ORFs contained complete genes, 6 ORFs with functional regions.

This work aimed to produce and characterize cellulose nanofibers obtained from cassava peel with a combination of pre-treatments with acid hydrolysis or TEMPO-mediated oxidation and ultrasonic disintegration. All nanofibers presented nanometric diameter (5−16 nm) and high negative zeta potential values (around −30 mV).

The colonies expressed the highest cellulose hydrolysis capacity with maximum HC value were obtained at dose range of 700-1500 Gy. It is important to notice the 5 potential mutants including 3 mutants of Aspergillus (TTG-700, TTG-1000 and TTG-1200) and 2 mutants of Trichoderma (VTCC-1000, VTCC-1500) demonstrated the higher CMCase secretion (1.78 – 2.48 times) compared to the wild types. After 5 generations.

An experiment was conducted for isolation of cellulolytic microorganisms from diverse environments. Samplings were done from 8 locations representing 27 samples viz. forest ecosystem, composting units, incorporation experiments and agricultural fields. A total of 653 microorganisms including bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi were isolated using serial dilution plate assay. All the cultures were initially screened for cellulolytic potential using carboxy methyl cellulose medium on the basis of zone of hydrolysis obtained.

Rice straw has shown to be a promising agricultural by-product in the bioconversion of biomass to value-added products. Hydrolysis of cellulose, a main constituent of lignocellulosic biomass, is a requirement for fermentable sugar production and its subsequent bioconversion to biofuels such as biobutanol.

Several types of phospholipases have been described in phospholipids modification. The majority of phospholipase D (PLD) superfamily members can catalyze two separate reactions: the hydrolysis of phospholipids to produce phosphatidic acid (PA) and the transphosphatidylation of phosphatidyl groups into various phosphatidyl alcohols to produce modified phospholipids.

Amongst six natural lignocellulosic waste/raw material screened, millet straw contained maximum cellulose (30 %) and physical and chemical pre-treatment yielded maximum cellulase activity. The composition of millet straw showed 30 % cellulose, 10 % hemicellulose, 8.73 % total organic carbon, 0.7 % total nitrogen and 0.8 ppm phosphorous. Amongst four fungi of genus Aspergillus isolated from local soil dumps of kitchen and garden waste, Aspergillus flavus showed maximum cellulase activity on CMC agar medium and used for degradation of millet straw.

Xylanase xylose/cellulose fractionation can efficiently improve the utilization of xylose and cellulose. Improvement of xylanase performance during hemicellulose hydrolysis can increase xylose/cellulose fractionation efficiency. To utilize xylose and cellulose efficiently, an enzymatic xylose/cellulose fractionation and a separate fermentation bioethanol process were performed.

In this study, a carbon–based solid acid catalyst was prepared via hydrothermal carbonization method (HTC) using glucose and pyrolysed waste tyre as carbon precursors and aqueous solution of H2SO4 as sulfonation agent. Prepared catalysts were characterized by X–ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared FT–IR and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET). As the result, catalysts were manufactured with the appropriate physical and chemical characteristics and high acidity.
