Hyperoxia acute lung injury

Recent studies reported that soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) plays an important role in lung diseases. However, the role of sEH in hyperoxia-induced ALI is unclear. Methods: ALI was induced by exposure to 100% oxygen in an airtight cage for 72 h in wild-type (WT) and sEH gene deletion (EPHX2−/− ) mice.

Long-term mechanical ventilation with hyperoxia can induce lung injury. General anesthesia is associated with a very high incidence of hyperoxaemia, despite it usually lasts for a relatively short period of time. It remains unclear whether short-term mechanical ventilation with hyperoxia has an adverse impact on or cause injury to the lungs.

Interleukin (IL)-3 amplifies inflammation. However, the effect of IL-3 in acute lung injury (ALI), an acute inflammatory disease, is unclear. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that IL-3 plays an important role in hyperoxia-induced ALI.
