Iatrogenic fracture
-
Here we report the only formally documented case in the United Kingdom, to our knowledge, of a cerebral fat embolism secondary to non-iatrogenic trauma through a Tarlov cyst. This case demonstrates the pathology clearly giving an excellent opportunity to demonstrate a rarely seen pathology as well as illustrating the importance of the patient history to guiding further management.

Conventional plate osteosynthesis is a valuable treatment option in displaced proximal and/or middle one-third humeral shaft fractures. Nonetheless, this procedure can be complicated by a radial nerve palsy. To date, many surgical techniques have been developed in an attempt to minimize this high-impact complication. A helical plate has the potential to avoid an iatrogenic radial nerve palsy due to its design.

Severe kyphotic deformities carry high risk for neurological injuries as osteotomies are often required for correction. Surgeons often utilize a staged approach for dealing with these conditions starting with a period of halo traction to stretch tight soft tissues and partially correct the deformity, followed by surgery.

The spleen is the intra-abdominal organ most often injured as a result of blunt trauma. The spleen is the most vascular organ of the body and, for this reason, splenic injury is potentially life threatening. The most common mechanism for such injury is motor vehicle collision. Left lower rib fractures are suggestive of spleen injury, although an intact rib cage does not exclude spleen trauma.

Closed reduction and lateral-entry pin fixation in the management of displaced supracondylar humeral fractures in children: reduction stability and iatrogenic nerve injuries Background: Closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation has been the treatment of choice for displaced supracondylar humeral fractures in children in Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopedics, Ho Chi Minh City for nearly a decade, although controversy persists regarding the optimal pin-fixation technique: lateral-entry pin fixation or medial and lateral entry pin fixation.
