Icteric mucous membranes

A one year old female Labrador dog was presented to University Veterinary Hospital Kokkalai, with a history of anorexia, weakness, blood in urine and faeces. On physical examination mucous membranes were pale icteric, fever (105.30 F), tachypnoea was noticed. Abdominal palpation revealed splenomegaly which was confirmed by ultrasonography. Haemotological examination revealed leucocytosis, severe macrocytic hypochromic anaemia (VPRC-9.4%) and thrombocytopenia.

Serum samples from 126 clinically ailing goats showing signs like anorexia, fever, oligolactia, mastitis, icteric mucous membranes and abortion from different villages of Navsari, Surat, Tapi and Valsad districts of South Gujarat were examined for antileptospiral antibodies by microscopic agglutination test (MAT) using 17 serovars. Among screened goats, seropositivity was found to be 14.29 %. Seroreactivity was noted against serovars Hardjo, Canicola, Pomona, Pyrogenes, Bankinang, Grippotyphosa, Patoc1 and Australis. Female goats showed comparatively higher seropositivity than male goats.

A three-year-old Siberian husky was brought for necropsy with a history of respiratory distress and erythematous patches on the ventral abdomen. Postmortem examination revealed icteric mucous membranes, diffuse erythematous patches in the ventral abdomen and ticks all over the body. The intermediate and diaphragmatic lobe of the lungs revealed haemorrhages. Liver was mottled and tan yellow brown. Gall bladder had a solitary calculus. Spleen was mildly swollen, dark brown and congested. Kidneys had a pitted and granular cortical surface with hemorrhages in the pelvis.

The present study was conducted in cattle brought to Large Animal Medicine Unit, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Campus, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research and Ambulatory clinic for treatment of various medical ailments from June 2017 to November 2017. Seventy three cases with clinical signs of pale to icteric mucous membrane and tick infestation were subjected for blood smear examination and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).

This report deals with the successful clinical management of Leptospirosis infection in two dogs. Two dogs one Pomeranian and one Labrador of ages two years and four years respectively was presented to the Referral Veterinary Polyclinic, IVRI Izatnagar in recumbent stage having history of acute onset of vomiting, anorexia, polydipsia, polyuria and weight loss, coughing, lethargy. There were no proper record of deworming and vaccination.

Canine babesiosis is a hemoprotozoan parasite affecting dogs. The goal of this study was to provide an overview of molecular examination of babesiosis and heamato-biochemical changes in canine babesiosis infected dogs. In this study, 8 cases infected with Babesia were confirmed by means of hematological, biochemical and multiplex PCR. The most common clinical signs were anorexia, pale or icteric mucous membranes, high rise of temperature and dark urine colour.
