  • This paper concerns a problem of finite-time stability for a class of linear singular large-scale systems with delays. Based on matrix transformations, Lyapunov function method combined with new estimation techniques, we derive sufficient conditions for solving the finite-time stability of the system. A numerical example is given to illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the theoretical results.

  • This paper concerns with a problem of supoptimal finite-time control for a class of linear large-scale delay systems. The system under consideration is subjected to the state and control delays interacted between subsystems. Based on improved LMI approach combining with new estimation techniques, we derive sufficient conditions for solving H∞ finite-time control and guaranteed cost control of the system. A numerical example is given to illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the theoretical results.

  • This paper presents crack identification in multiple cracked beams made of functionally graded material (FGM) by using stationary wavelet transform (SWT) of mode shapes and taking into account influence of Gaussian noise. Mode shapes are obtained from multiple cracked FGM beam element and spring model of cracks. The theoretical development was illustrated and validated by numerical examples. The investigated results show that crack identification method by using SWT of mode shapes is efficient and realizable.

  • In this paper, we discuss a new algorithm to find a non-zero real root of the transcendental equations using series expansion. This proposed method is based on the inverse series expansion, which gives a good approximate root than some other existing methods. The implementation of this algorithm is presented in Matlab and Maple. Sample numerical examples are presented to illustrate and validate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The method will help to implement in the commercial package for finding a real root of a given transcendental equation.

  • The framework as it relates to the validation of language tests in general is presented and the model is then applied to two tests of spoken English by way of illustration. Although examples are included, the main aim is to provide a theoretical justification for a focus on comprehensibility and the inclusion of linguistic variation in the assessment of ELF and to present a validation framework that can be applied by test developers and test users.

  • In this work, the program so-called “Multiple Precision Computation” (MPC) proposed by Smith in 2003 is introduced and embedded into conventional codes for considerably improving the precision of numerical calculations. The procedure is evaluated for improvement and validated by using the comparison between calculations incorporating MPC and those using regular double-precision declarations and results obtained with well-known software Mathematica, respectively. Several representatively fundamental problems are taken into account for illustration.

  • This article highlights a robust adaptive tracking control approach for a nonholonomic wheeled mobile robot by which the bad problems of both unknown slippage and uncertainties are dealt with. The radial basis function neural network in this proposed controller assists unknown smooth nonlinear dynamic functions to be approximated. Furthermore, a technical solution is also carried out to avoid actuator saturation. The validity and efficiency of this novel controller, finally, are illustrated via comparative simulation results.

  • The selection of optimal portfolios is the central problem of financial investment decisions. Mathematically speaking, portfolio selection refers to the formulation of an objective function that determines the weights of the portfolio invested in each asset as to maximize return and minimize risk. This paper applies the method of genetic algorithm (GA) to obtain an optimal portfolio selection. However, the GA parameters are of great importance in the procedure of convergence of this algorithm towards the optimal solution such as crossover.

  • Credit risk impedes the growth of bank’s performance and position which is largely influenced by a number of factors that should be taken consideration and minimized. The objective of the study is to illustrate the inclusion of valid causes of selecting best model with regard to statistical significance. The study conducted on panel data consisting of 322 observations with 22 commercial banks and 15 consecutive years. The study finds that profitability, capital and bank size are inversely associated with bank credit risk whereas net interest margin and inefficiency have positive effect.

  • In this paper, the Legendre spectral-collocation method was applied to obtain approximate solutions for some types of fractional optimal control problems (FOCPs). The fractional derivative was described in the Caputo sense. Two different approaches were presented, in the first approach, necessary optimality conditions in terms of the associated Hamiltonian were approximated. In the second approach, the state equation was discretized first using the trapezoidal rule for the numerical integration followed by the Rayleigh–Ritz method to evaluate both the state and control variables.
