Our hope is that these articles excite readers’ psychological imagination, leading them to engage with and take up the ideas and practices promoted by the articles, to diverge from prescribed methods and to journey into the unfamiliar and embrace innovation in their research.

Imagination is the first stepping stone towards innovation. People imagine a future and then start to work towards making them that dream come true. It forms the very basic foundation of creativity. Every one of us is born with the natural ability to imagine things, to dream and fantasize. But most people are afraid to share that imagination to others and that ultimately stops them from implementing it on the others hands. The creative individuals are bold, social and share their dreams with others.

Unique innovations stem from multiple collaborations: augmented reality is used to treat disease via simulated internal radiation therapy (Computer Vision and Systems Laboratory/LVSN); geospace technologies are used in the production of interactive games (GeoEduc3D); dynamic intelligence is used to create training applications for golfers (Pro Mental Coach, Frima, Brain Centre); artificial intelligence (twinned with man/machine interfaces) is found in the development of serious game training simulations (DRDC Valcartier).

A timetable or appointment diary is another application included in e-Mintza; in a very simple way a multimedia timetable or appointment diary can be generated for the user. This is particularly useful for people who have difficulties with temporal sequencing or imagination but have good visual skills.

Although some older companies, including IBM and Hewlett-Packard, played central parts in the emerging IT industries, no one imagines that these industries could have taken off as profusely as they did just from the existing corporate base. The ongoing series of new growth companies provided the highly adaptive economic infrastructure required. The question we now face is how to re-kindle economic expansion and job creation. Painter Hanne Ravn Hermansen created this technicolour frieze for the play area, Kids Airport. It is 10 m long with a kaleido- scopic mosaic of recognisable buildings from capital cities around the world. The sky is full of animals and fantastic creatures, travelling in a world of the imagination that the children can hop in and out of, recognising places they have been to or are on their way to. The response to the iPhone is overwhelming. The App Store has captured the hobbyist’s imagination like no other platform in recent memory. Hobbyists have made—and will continue making—money from their creations sold on the App Store. And we aren’t necessarily talking about high-minded technical innovations.
