Humoral immune responses to infectious agents or vaccination vary substantially among individuals, and many of the factors responsible for this variability remain to be defined. Current evidence suggests that human genetic variation influences (i) serum immunoglobulin levels, (ii) seroconversion rates, and (iii) intensity of antigenspecific immune responses.

Rituximab is a B cell depleting anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody. CD20 is not expressed on mature plasma cells and accordingly rituximab does not have immediate effects on immunoglobulin levels. However, after rituximab some patients develop hypogammaglobulinaemia.

Scleromyxedema is a progressive, systemic connective tissue disorder characterized by fibro-mucous skin lesions and increased serum monoclonal immunoglobulin levels. Pulmonary involvement occurs in a subset of patients, though the overall prevalence of pulmonary lesions in scleromyxedema is unknown.

The sequencing of immunoglobulin (Ig) transcripts from single B cells yields essential information about Ig heavy: Light chain pairing, which is lost in conventional bulk sequencing experiments. The previously limited throughput of single-cell approaches has recently been overcome by the introduction of multiple next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based platforms.

The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of freeze drying on total antioxidant and immunoglobulin levels of bovine colostrum in desi breed (Zebu cattle). A total of 12 colostrum samples were collected from the desi breed (Zebu cattle) reared at LPM section of IVRI, Izatnagar. Collected colostrum was converted aseptically into dry powder form by freeze drying at (-) 40º C with low pressure.

Whey protein is a derived by-product from cheese manufacturing and has many health benefits due to its high-level content of bioactive peptides, such as β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin, serum albumin, immunoglobulin, and lactoferrin. These proteins have antioxidant characteristics that reduce hypertension, cancer, hyperlipidemia, and virus contagious. In addition, whey protein is utilized to lessen the inflammatory bowel disease. In this review, we highlighted the characteristics, applications, functional properties of whey proteins.

The epidemiological features of Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) have seldom been investigated at a national level, particularly in East Asia. The goal of our study is to present the incidence, prevalence, mortality, survival with competing risks, and causes of death of patients with WM.

Maternal antibodies are key components of the protective responses of infants who are unable to produce their own IgG until 6 months of life. There is evidence that HIV-exposed uninfected children (HEU) have IgG levels abnormalities, that can be partially responsible for the higher vulnerability to infections in the first 2 years of the life of this population.

Measles, an acute viral illness caused by a virus belonging to the family Paramyxoviridae, is a vaccine-preventable disease. Children’s between 9 months and 12 years of age are mostly affected and presents with fever and maculopapularrash. Despite the national immunization program, measles virus infection is common in India. Objectives of the study are 1. To study the suspected cases of measles virus infection with high fever and characteristic rashes, among children. 2. To detect antibody levels against measles virus by ELISA IgM and IgG.

The study was undertaken to evaluate the protein levels in rabbits affected by a lysate vaccine developed from Pasteurella multocida grown under iron-restricted conditions and lysed by a bacteriophage. Serum proteins include immunoglobulins and complement which mediate humoral immune response and an assessment of protein levels can be of clinical relevance being an indicator of humoral immune response. Two groups of rabbits were immunized with lysate vaccine (LV) and conventional alum precipitated killed HS vaccine (CV) and blood was collected at various days post – immunization (DPI).

Kawasaki disease (KD) is the most common acute coronary vasculitis to occur in children. Although we have uncovered global DNA hypomethylation in KD, its underlying cause remains uncertain. In this study, we performed a survey of transcript levels of DNA methyltransferases and demethylases in KD patients.

We present an array of force spectroscopy experiments that aim to identify the role of solvent hydrogen bonds in protein folding and chemical reactions at the single-molecule level. In our experiments we control the strength of hydrogen bonds in the solvent environment by substituting water (H2O) with deuterium oxide (D2O). Using a combination of force protocols, we demonstrate that protein unfolding, protein collapse, protein folding and a chemical reaction are affected in different ways by substituting H2O with D2O.

Research should focus on the development and production of new high-affinity, non-immunoglobulin protein scaffolds as an alternative to antibodies or oligonucleotides. Projects should aim at developing new, efficient and safe therapies by combining high specificity with stable production characteristics. Projects should include preclinical studies, methods for scale-up and GMP as appropriate, should combine academic, clinical and industrial expertise and implement a translational approach towards clinical trials (clinical proof-of-concept and/or phase I/II clinical studies).

Serum β2-microglobulin is a protein of 11,000 mol wt with homologies with the constant region of immunoglobulins that is the light chain of the class I major histocompatibility antigens (HLA-A, -B, -C) on the surface of every cell. Serum β2-microglobulin is the single most powerful predictor of survival and can substitute for staging. Patients with β2-microglobulin levels 0.004 g/L only 12 months. Serum β2-microglobulin and albumin levels are the basis for a three-stage International Staging System (ISS).

The level of suspicion of infections with certain organisms should depend on the type of cancer diagnosed (Table 82-3). Diagnosis of multiple myeloma or CLL should alert the clinician to the possibility of hypogammaglobulinemia. While immunoglobulin replacement therapy can be effective, in most cases prophylactic antibiotics are a cheaper, more convenient method of eliminating bacterial infections in CLL patients with hypogammaglobulinemia.
