Imperfect quality

  • The system of relations between the consumer and the seller has many factors that shape the dynamics of the market of goods and services based on the supply chain strategy. Supply chains satisfy customers by striving for delivering the right products to the right place at the right time, at the right quality and at the right quantity within an increasingly faster pace and lower cost. Theories of social entropy consider the system of social relations from the standpoint of the equilibrium of systems and their disproportion.

  • This specification covers hot-rolled and cold-rolled drawing alloy-steel sheet and strip. Material of this quality is produced principally for applications involving severe cold plastic deformation such as deep drawn or severely formed parts. This steel is produced by a closely controlled steelmaking practice designed to assure internal soundness, relative uniformity of chemical composition, and freedom from injurious imperfections.

  • This specification covers carbon steel plates, forging quality, intended for forging, quenching-and-tempering, and similar applications in which uniformity of composition and freedom from injurious imperfections are important.

  • This work investigates the robust beamforming for a multi-antenna internet of things (IoT) system using wireless information and power transmission (WIPT), given that imperfect channel state information (CSI) assumption is accounted. In particular, we investigate the problem of maximizing the worst-case energy harvested, taking into account the quality of service (QoS) constraint of user rate.

  • This study enhances the understanding of imperfect factor markets by examining the impact of country-level factors on takeover location decisions and the gains to target firms. The results suggest that the likelihood that a completed deal is a cross-border acquisition rather than a domestic acquisition is higher for target countries with lower government quality, weaker investor protection, stronger restrictions on capital mobility, lower corporate tax rates, and more depreciated currencies.

  • In this note, we extend Hsu and Hsu's (2013a) work to consider the case that returned items are replaced with good items. A closed-form solution is developed for the optimal order size and the maximum shortage level. Numerical examples are provided to show the differences in the optimal solutions when returned items are replaced, and when they are not.

  • In this paper, a two-echelon decentralized supply chain consisting of a manufacture and a supplier that both face just in time (JIT) inventory problem is considered. It is sought to find the optimal number of the shipments and the quantity of each shipment in a way that minimizes the both manufacturer’s and the supplier’s cost functions. To the authors’ best knowledge, this is the first paper that deals with imperfect items in a decentralized supply chain.

  • The results show that ultimate strength under static loading can not be used as a quality criterion for zirconium alloys welds. Increased shielding gas flow rate does not allow to protect weld metal totally and contributes to defect formation without using special nozzles. Several types of imperfections of the welds have been found, but the major problem is branching microcracks on the surface of the welds.

  • In this paper, we consider an integrated vendor-buyer inventory policy for a continuous review model with a random number of defective items and screening process gradually at a fixed screening rate in buyer’s arriving order lot.

  • This paper develops an inventory model for a hypothesized volume flexible manufacturing system in which the production rate is stock-dependent and the system produces both perfect and imperfect quality items. The demand rate of perfect quality items is known and constant, whereas the demand rate of imperfect (non-conforming to specifications) quality items is a function of discount offered in the selling price.

  • This paper incorporates the effects of learning and the reworking of defective items on the EPQ model since they were not considered in existing models. An optimal operation policy that minimizes the expected total cost per unit time is derived. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed model. In addition, sensitivity analysis is performed and discussed.

  • This paper deals with an economic order quantity model where demand is stock dependent. Items received are not of perfect quality and each lot received contains percentage defective imperfect quality items, which follow a probability distribution. Two cases are considered. 1) Imperfect quality items are held in stock and sold in a single batch after a 100 percent screening process. 2) A hundred percent screening process is performed but the imperfect quality items are sold as soon as they are detected. Approximate optimal solutions are derived in both cases.

  • The Just-In-Time (JIT) philosophy has received a great deal of attention. Several actions such as improving quality, reducing setup cost and shortening lead time have been recognized as effective ways to achieve the underlying goal of JIT. This paper considers the partial backorders, lot size reorder point inventory system with an imperfect production process.

  • Shipping imperfect software is like going into debt. When you incur debt, the illusion of doing things faster can lead to exponential growth in the cost of maintaining software. Software debt takes five major forms: technical, quality, configuration management, design, and platform experience. In today’s rush to market, software debt is inevitable. And that’s okay—if you’re careful about the debt you incur, and if you quickly pay it back.
