Important role in poultry farming

The present study was conducted in four villages of Kesla and Hoshangabad blocks of Hoshangabad District. For household income and food & nutritional security through women empowerment and to find better performance among the narmada nidhi and local non descript (ND) breed, 25 female and 5 male birds of each breed are distributed to 10 women’s of each 4 village in these 2 blocks for backyard rearing.

For the development of any nation, the females play a significant role. In India, the females comprise 48.18% of the total population. The majority of Indian females reside in the rural areas of our country. The female population of the rural India is the backbone of the rural economy and major drivers in the agriculture sector. They play an important role in poultry farming, goat farming, apiculture and sericulture. The traits required for the workers in the agriculture sectors are inherent in the Indian female population.

Family poultry is rarely the sole means of livelihood for the family but is one of a number of integrated and complementary farming activities contributing to the overall well-being of the household. Poultry provide a major income-generating activity from the sale of birds and eggs. Occasional consumption provides a valuable source of protein in the diet. Poultry also play an important socio-cultural role in many societies. Poultry keeping uses family labour, and women (who often own as well as look after the family flock) are major beneficiaries.

Why is there concern about the disappearance of Agriculture of the Middle? For the purposes of this report, the most important reason for concern about mid-sized poultry production operations and mid-sized processing facilities has to do with the lack of and increasing loss of infrastructure that impedes the growth of small scale producers who wish to scale up in production and processing. Another reason has to do with the role that these companies have played in the marketplace. Many innovations and much entrepreneurial activity originates from this sector of producers.

Wheat and maize are important components of poultry feeds. The demand for wheat and maize, therefore, is expected to increase with the growth of poultry farms in the country. The demand for both livestock and poultry feeds appear to be currently met from only imports, and at seemingly relatively higher costs. In view of this, the domestic production of maize and wheat has an important role to play in the development of poultry vis-‡-vis agriculture sector in Bangladesh.

Chickens in extensive and semi-intensive poultry production systems account for more than 75% of all poultry in the South. Owned by smallholders in rural areas, these birds provide food security and fam- ily income and play an important role in socio-cultural events. Poultry is an important farm species in almost all countries. It is an important source of animal protein, and can be raised in situations with limited feed and housing resources. Chickens are ‘waste- converters’: they ‘convert’ a scavenged feed resource base into animal protein.
