Astaxanthin (AST) and pycnogenol (PYC) are natural bioactive compounds commonly used in pharmaceuticals and functional foods due to their highly antioxidant activity and potential health benefits. However, the widespread application of astaxanthin is hindered by its poor water solubility and highly unsaturated structure.
