Rhizobia topic has been re-focused in recent years because of new findings on their traits not only as nitrogen-fixing bacteria but also as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria. When combing rhizobial strains with novel biological carriers (e.g., biochar) for inoculant production, it brings great potential for improving soil health in long-term.

Extensive use of synthetic fertilizer to maximize the productivity often leads to depletion of essential soil nutrients, environmental degradation and adversely affects soil rhizosphere microbiota. The present study investigates the efficacy of Trichoderma and biochar co-application on tomato productivity, nutritional quality and soil health improvements under reduced N-P-K fertilizer application.

The use of resource management technologies such as zero tillage, which can affect the soil properties, can restore soil health that is degrading at a rapid pace due to intensive agriculture, inefficient and imbalanced use of fertilisers, high-yielding crops, the use of heavy machinery, excessive tillage, etc. The health of the soil can be measured by the capacity of microorganisms that can act as early warning signals. To improve soil quality, zero tillage is recommended globally and has significant effects on soil microbial communities.

The study revealed that the guava + banana and guava + eggplant systems were proved to be the most significant intercropping system by improving physio-chemical properties like bulk density, water holding capacity, SOC, available NPK of the soil. The maximum system equivalent yield and economic return were obtained from the same system. Thus the guava + banana intercropping system is not only the best for restoring soil fertility but also obtaining the maximum economic return for guava growers of West Bengal.

The capability of soil to produce safe and nutritious crop in sustained manner over the long run, and to enhance Human and Animal Health without impairing the natural resource base or adversely affecting the environment. The SHC helps the farmers as the farmers get a well monitored report about the soil and they are guided by the experts to improve soil health.

Geotextiles a natural product at eco-friendly and biodegradable in nature, act as useful ameliorative to climate the soil related constrains of crop production. Biodeterioration of cellulose fiber results from the reduction at die polymerization leading to loss textile strength. It also helps to protect the most vital natural resources of soil and water from various degradation processes by erosion of soil and runoff water. It plays a vital role in increasing moisture holding capacity in soil, improving water uptake and drainage capacity.

Sustainable agricultural intensification through integrated disease management (IDM) approaches is considered to be the most powerful tool for any developing country. The principles and components of integrated disease management approaches are crudely followed sustainable agriculture for our future generation and better soil health. These approaches must be incorporate into our farming system for better food security, armouring biodiversity and improving climate resilience.

Improving and maintaining soil quality for enhancing and sustaining agricultural production is of utmost importance for India’s food and nutritional security. Permanent Manurial Experiments (PMW) are ideal sites for studying management induced variability in crop production and soil health. The biological activity of a soil is the function of number of organisms present in soil and their physiological efficiency. Soil microbial diversity is one of the most important microbial parameters in soil.

Supply of good quality and adequate quantities of fodder play an important role in improving the health and productivity of animals. Green and dry fodders are cheaper sources than concentrate feed, hence its inclusion would curtail the cost of feed purchase. Unfortunately, in our country there is acute scarcity of green and dry fodder mainly due to very less area available for its cultivation. In future also there are less chances to increase area under forage cultivation because of heavy pressure of burgeoning human and livestock population on meager land.

Organic vegetable cultivation is a present day need not only to meet the demand of export oriented produce and to reduce cost of cultivation but also to protect the environment. In the present investigation four widely studied PGPMs viz., Azotobacter sp. (UBAZ-1), phosphate solubilising bacteria (UBPS-9), Trichoderma sp. (UBT-18) and Pseudomonas fluorescens (VPf-1) were evaluated for their ability either individually or in consortia to induce the physical and biochemical fitness of the bell pepper (Capsicum annum) transplants.

Traditional farming has imbalance and excess use of chemicals and, in turn, to negative environmental impacts on soil health, groundwater, and atmosphere. Sensor based farming system should be more sustainable to reach economical and social profitability as well as the sustainable environment. A correct solution is to adopt precision farming, the best option for sustaining food production without declining the ecosystem.

Bio-fertilizer is a substance used to increase the fertility of the soil. It contains microorganisms which helps the soil to gain its nutrient back and make the soil available for cultivation. Bio-fertilizer doesn’t make any kind of pollution, so it is not a threat to use them in the place of the chemical fertilizers which causes a lot of pollution to the environment. Current soil management strategies are mainly dependent on inorganic chemical-based fertilizers, which caused a serious threat to human health and environment.

Climate is one of the key drivers behind agriculture. As climate change is uncertain, agriculture should be climate smart and must include agricultural management practices which include the use of bio wastes that could be able to sustain or improve our soil health. Moreover, increase in atmospheric carbon level is becoming a challenging task for the scientific community.
