This study analyzed the trend in maize production in Vietnam and estimated a production model while determining factors affecting change in output. Response coefficients were estimated from time-series data covering 1986 to 2011 using the double-logarithm model. Estimated parameters results in model indicated that the maize production also had positive response to the price of maize, the fertilizer per hectare, the maize area, irrigation, the trend variable, and the agricultural extension policy.

The response of okra to drip irrigation in terms of yield improvement was found to be different in different agro-climatic and soil conditions in India (Tiwari et al., 1998a; Horo et al., 2003; Vankar and Shinde, 2007; Mishra et al., 2009). With this in background, present study was undertaken to study the effect of drip irrigation system and plastic mulch of okra crop under agro-climatic conditions of Marathwada region.

Rice-wheat is a major cropping system prominent on 2.5 million hectares in Punjab. Irrigation is commonly used to stabilize the productivity of this system using surface canal and sub-soil tube well water. Judicious use of water and land resources has been a major challenge for agriculture and it is imperative to use these scarce resources efficiently.

The rice-wheat rotation is one of the world’s largest agricultural production systems occupying about 85% of the cultivated land in the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) and nearly one-sixth of the total geographical area of the sub continent. The system accounts for about one-third of the area of both rice and wheat grown in South Asia. Rice-wheat rotations produce more than 45% of the region’s food and provide staple grains for nearly 42% of the total population of 1.3 billion of South Asia.

Groundwater is an important source for irrigation in large tracks of India. This source has been considered as infinite and used indiscriminately without any disregard to recharge prospects. Reducing the over exploitation of ground water and its optimal utilization for irrigation is the need of the hour especially in low rainfall areas.

The study revealed that, for the selected crop which adopted drip irrigation improved the yields in the range of 14.59 to 81.9 % over traditional irrigation with highest yield increase in case of mango (81.9%) and wheat (14.59%). Drip irrigation consistently recorded higher water productivity (WP) with more than five folds increase in case of mango. The average WP was higher under drip irrigation (5.43 kg m-3 ) as compared to traditional method (0.94 kg m-3 ).

Green revolution has made India self-sufficient in food grain production. In most of the state of India cereal production is a surplus. But cereal production is not improving the economical condition of farmers. Vegetable cultivation is however considered as 2-3 times profitable than traditional cereal cultivation. Farmers can make more profit by cultivating vegetable after cereal crops. But in Rabi and Zaid seasons irrigation water availability is a major problem in rainfed areas.

Improving both the efficiency of water uses and water productivity in irrigation require appropriate solutions for design, management and maintenance of irrigation systems. Various software tools proved useful for designing new systems and to improve functioning and management of systems under operation. In this complex context, it is important that farmers could rely on instruments and practices that enable a better management of water at the field scale, whatever the irrigation method they adopt.

Rice is the staple food of Odisha in terms of area, production and yield. System of Rice Intensification (SRI) involves adoption of changes in management practices of rice cultivation creating a favourable condition for crop growth with less utilization of inputs. Despite the benefits, SRI has not adopted by the farmers as expected in the state. This paper attempted to analyse the perception of Odisha farmers regarding major constraints hindering widespread of SRI by different categories of farmers (i.e. adopters, dropouts and non-adopters) in the state and the positive impact of SRI.
