In vitro antagonism
-
Combination of Rhizobium and Trichoderma species were studied to document their compatibility their synergism, antagonism under in vitro condition and their effects on the growth of lentil in vivo condition. In respect this, few strains of Trichoderma were isolated from the rhizosphere soil of Pulse crop from different locations of West Bengal and they were tested in vitro and in vivo along with Rhizobium to know the interaction between them and the growth behaviour on lentil.

Effect of eight antagonists viz., Trichoderma atroviride, T. harzianum, T. virens, T. fasciculatum, T. asperellum, T. viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis were studied for their antagonism against Macrophomina phaseolina by dual culture method and six fungicides viz. Azoxystrobin 23 SC, Carbendazim (12%) + Mancozeb (63%) 75 WP, Carbendazim (25%) + Mancozeb (50%) 75 WS were evaluated at two different concentrations (500 ppm and 1000 ppm) by poisoned food technique against the same pathogen.

Biological control is known to be effective eco-friendly method for the management of crop diseases (Cook and Baker, 1983). Rhizosphere antagonists were isolated from healthy rhizosphere soil samples of chilli collected from major chilli growing areas of Andhra Pradesh. A total of 20 rhizosphere microbes were isolated. Out of which (eight fungal antagonists, ten bacterial antagonists and two fluorescent Pseudomonads) were found to exhibit antagonism against chilli wilt pathogen. On further in vitro evaluation, nine isolates including four fungi, four bacteria and one pseudomonas sp.

Stem bleeding disease caused by Thielaviopsis paradoxa is one of the major diseases of coconut in almost all the coconut growing regions of Andhra Pradesh. Bioefficacy of native bioagents viz., Trichoderma spp and Pseudomonas fluroscens on stem bleeding pathogen Thielaviopsis paradoxa under in vitro conditions revealed that all the three isolated native Trichoderma spp were found inhibitory to the mycelia growth of Thielaviopsis paradoxa on Potato Dexose Agar media.

In vitro antagonism of native biocontrol agents on coconut pathogens revealed that all the three isolated native Trichoderma spp were found inhibitory to the mycelia growth of Thielaviopsis paradoxa and Phytophthora palmivora. Maximum percent inhibition of mycelia growth of Thielaviopsis paradoxa and Phytophthora palmivora was obtained by Trichoderma viride followed by Trichoderma hamatum and Trichoderma harzianum.

Collor or root rot of soybean is an important soil-borne fungal disease caused by Sclerotium rolfsii causing up to 5-50 per cent of yield losses annually. The present investigation was undertaken on effect of fluorescent pseudomonads on collor or root rot management in soybean. Sixty two different pseudomonad isolates were evaluated for their antagonistic activity against S. rolfsii under in vitro condition. Per cent inhibition of mycelial growth of S. rolfsii by pseudomonads ranged from 22.59 to 70.37. Fifty one isolates showed antagonism against the pathogen.

Thirty fungal endophytic isolates were recovered from leaf, stem, root and inflorescence of mulberry plant and the morphological characterization was done. The antifungal potential of isolated mycoendophytes against Macrophomina phaseolina was evaluated in vitro by dual culture technique and revealed that ENF20 isolate reduced the mycelial growth by 82.22 per cent over control followed by ENF12 (80.56 per cent), ENF11 (77.78 per cent), ENF13 (76.11 per cent).

The present study was conducted to evaluate the in vitro efficacy of native Trichoderma spp. against Pythium spp. and Rhizoctonia solani (Kuhn.) causing damping-off disease in Tomato. One hundred eighty soil samples were collected from 11 districts of Meghalaya and ninety seven Trichoderma isolates were obtained. Rapid screening against damping off pathogens (Pythium spp. and R. solani) of tomato revealed that 20 isolates showed maximum antagonism and subsequently 20 best isolates were selected for further analysis.

The goal of this in vitro study was to examine the effect of the alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist dexmedetomidine on phenylephrine (alpha-1 adrenoceptor agonist)-induced contraction in isolated rat aortae and to elucidate the associated cellular mechanisms, with a particular focus on alpha-1 adrenoceptor antagonism.
