In this study, a new formulation based on the combination of two active constituents (zinc pyrithione and triclosan) and an inactive component (carboxymethyl cellulose polymer) was optimized for seed coating to control seed-borne pathogens. According to the in vitro antimicrobial tests, the combination of zinc pyrithione and triclosan showed a broader spectrum of phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi control.

Seed propagation of Mycetia balansae Drake is not easy, due to low germination rate and low viability, so it is very rare in nature. In order to conserve this plant as well as to use for commercial purposes in cooperation with Tue Linh Co.Ltd, providing a large number of plants is necessary and in vitro tissue culture technology could be solve this problem. Therefore, the study on "Callus induction and plant regeneration in vitro from leaf explants of mycetia balansae drake" was carried out.

The present paper was conducted to study the desiccation effect of poly ethylene glycol (PEG) in relation to embryo maturation, and germination. Abnormal malformed embryo explants were cultured on germination medium supplemented with different concentrations of PEG (15, 20 and 25 g l1 ) for two periods (15, 30 days) as desiccation treatments.

In this study the effectiveness of plant growth regulators on micropropagation, total phenol content and metabolic profiles of Melissa officinalis L., important medicinal herb was assessed. The stem segments derived from one-month old in vitro germinated seedlings were used for initial explants. Of the eight different nutrient media tested the most favorable for micropropagation were found to be MP2 (MS medium enriched with 1mg/L BAP and 0.1 mg/L IBA) and MP3 (MS supplemented with 1.5 mg/L BAP and 0.5 mg/L NAA), which yielded 3.25- 4.0 shoots per explant within 4 weeks of culture.

This study investigated the potential toxycity in vitro of biochar as well as water extract from biochar on seed germination of Oryza sativa, Brassica juncea, Vigna radiata, Solanum lycopersicum and Zea mays by Petri assay. Rice husk biochar does not affect on Oryza sativa germination (GI 97.60%) as well as has insignificant inhibition to Vigna radiata and Zea mays germination but adversely affecting on Brassica juncea and Solanum lycopersicum germination.

Beneficial microbes group of rhizobacteria such as Pseudomonas spp. and Bacillus sp. can serve as, PGPR and biological antagonists against with plant pathogens and can increase plant resistance through primed seeds. This study aimed to determine the activity of Pseudomonas spp. and Bacillus sp. in promoting germination and seedling growth of tomato plants.

The present experiment with different isolates of Azotobacter sp. was carried out to find out effective isolate for plant growth promoting activities and biological control. In case of in vitro screening for plant growth promoting efficacy, it was found that chilli seeds bacterized with AZT8 exhibited the highest per cent seed germination (98%) which was followed by AZT6 (86 %) and AZT4 (81%).

Six fungicides viz., captan 50 WP, copper oxychloride 50 WP, dodine 65 WP, mancozeb75 WP, propineb70 WP and zineb 80 WP were evaluated against rice sheath blight (Thanatephorus cucumeris). The in-vitro evaluation of these fungicides through poisoned food technique at five different concentrations viz., 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 µg a.i ml-1 indicated that mancozeb proved the most effective exhibiting mean mycelial growth inhibition of 95.26 per cent followed by captan and dodine with 93.80 and 93.66 per cent, respectively. Copper oxychloride proved least effective and resulted in only 44.

In vitro regeneration through seeds were studied in lime (Citrus aurantifolia) by culturing lime seeds on MS media supplemented with BAP (1, 3 and 5 mg/l), Kinetin (1, 3 and 5 mg/l) and their combination with NAA (0.1, 0.5 and 1 mg/l). In reference to increased germination percentage, mean shoot length, mean number of leaves per explant and mean root length, among BAP and Kinetin concentrations, BAP 3 mg/l was found to be the best treatment. In terms of cytokinins and NAA combine effect, BAP 5 mg/l + NAA 0.5 mg/l and Kinetin 3 mg/l + NAA at 0.1 mg/l were found to be the best combinations.

Pre-requisite for any plant biotechnological approach is development of an efficient plant regeneration system in that crop. In this regard the in vitro regeneration was achieved by using cotyledon explants from aseptically raised seedlings of popular Capsicum F1 hybrids Bharat and Indra. Seeds of both hybrids were exposed to different treatments for proper germination, were decontaminated and sown in vitro on half-strength MS medium.

The aim of this study was to develop an efficient protocol to standardize the concentration of sterilants for seed and explants sterilization for in vitro germination and regeneration respectively. The explants used are cotyledonary leaf, stem and hypocotyl of in vitro grown brinjal var.KKM1. For sterilization of seeds and explants, 5% sodium hypochlorite treatment for 3 minutes is the most effective sterilant concentration against the microbiological contamination. In subsequence, the regeneration protocol was optimised for the brinjal var.KKM1.

Paphiopedilum orchids, the most popular and rare orchid genera, are used as potted flowers and cut flowers. In nature condition, the orchid population is threatened with extinction due to over-exploitation and altered habitat. Reduction in this orchids via large-scale micropropagation is a better option to reduce the wild harvest, meets the commercial needs as well as conserves this threatened orchid. This orchid can be propagated by germinating seeds under in vitro culture condition; however, they are difficult for micropropagation, especially regenerating plantlets from in vitro culture.
