Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) share a number of common risk factors, including innate immunity-related genetic factors. In the present study, we compared the role of genetic variations of the TLR4 gene in susceptibility to COPD and PTB and illuminated the underlying molecular mechanism of functional single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).

Anti-tuberculosis therapy requires at least six-month treatment with continuous administration of combined antibiotics, including isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol. The long-term exposure to antibiotics could cause consequent changes in gut microbiota, which may alter the gastrointestinal function and drug absorption in patients, thereby affect the outcome of treatment.

The inherent risk of developing tuberculosis (TB) in HIV- infected individuals is further enhanced by hypovitaminosis D. Interventions that offset HIV-associated immune deterioration potentially arrest disease progression and incidence of opportunistic infections including TB. Despite conflicting reports on association between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and risk of TB, vitamin D (VD) supplementation remains a promising intervention.

This study covering the period from January 2017 to June 2017 was conducted at Department of Microbiology, SN Medical College, India. A total of 300 patients suspecting of having tuberculosis and consenting for HIV testing were included in the study. The TB diagnosis was performed using sputum microscopy (AFB staining) and all the cases were screened for HIV by using rapid HIV kits according to NACO guidelines. Overall, 29 (9.66%) cases were diagnosed as sputum positive pulmonary tuberculosis among which 2 cases (6.90 %) were sero-positive for HIV antibodies.

Pulmonary system is the most commonly involved system in people living with HIV as lungs are continuously exposed to the infection as they are rich in macrophages, dendritic cells, lymphocytes etc. In PLHIV immunity is suppressed, hence lungs are prone for infection and non infectious pulmonary diseases. According to autopsy findings, in HIV lung was affected almost upto 100% in the period of epidemic to 70% in the HAART era. Pneumonia is most common pulmonary manifestation followed by pulmonary tuberculosis and PCP.

Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV have been closely linked since the emergence of AIDS. Worldwide, TB is the most common opportunistic infection affecting HIV-seropositive individuals and it remains the most common cause of death in patients with AIDS. Aim is to determine the percentage of tuberculosis infection in HIV seropositive patients and to assess the type of pulmonary or extra pulmonary tuberculosis infection in Human immuno deficiency virus (HIV) seropositive patients in Udaipur zone. This study will be conducted in the Department of Microbiology, R.N.T.

Apart from country and industry-specific differences, the determinants of our estima- tion results 3 do not show any difference between the two innovation decisions (see Table 4). In short, the determinants of product and process innovations appear to be quite similar. This outcome might be explained by the fact that there is a wide overlap between these two types of innovations, which becomes obvious when taking a closer look at the European Commis- sion’s definition of product-integrated environmental innovations.

Exposure to tobacco smoke both prenatally and after birth is associated with measurable harmful effects including a greater risk of developing asthma-like symptoms in early childhood. However, evidence of increased risk of allergic diseases is uncertain77, 78. Distinguishing the independent contributions of prenatal and postnatal maternal smoking is problematic79. However, studies of lung function immediately after birth have shown that maternal smoking during pregnancy has an influence on lung development37.

Funders, including local governments, United Ways, and foundations increasingly ask, and sometimes require, reports that include outcome information, in order to demonstrate that their services have value. The United Way of America with its 1996 manual Measuring Program Outcomes: A Practical Approach became a major impetus in encouraging the measurement of outcomes. Other national service organizations have also created materials and provided resources to help their affiliates move into this area.
