Indigenously developed varieties

The impetus for Improvement of gladiolus in India resulted in many improved varieties which were bred under Indian conditions. To evaluate these indigenously developed varieties an experiment was conducted with 34 gladiolus varieties/cultivars at the Research Farm of Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune.

Our objective was to evaluate G. hirsutum cotton lines, which includes indigenous, exotic collection, released varieties and lines developed from different breeding strategies were evaluated in alpha lattice designs with two replications along with five standard G. hirsutum check varieties viz., Sahana, Surabhi, MCU 5, DS 28 and ARBH 813 for yield and fibre quality traits.

Native birds are considered for cross breeding to develop thermal tolerance and free range varieties to address the adverse climatic conditions and welfare issues respectively. The present study was conducted to assess the performance of two Indigenous breeds Aseel and Kadaknath under hot and humid conditions. The two indigenous breeds were studied for various performance parameters for a period of 12 weeks under standard managemental conditions.

All kind of crops can be produced in India with low cost labour availability and environment suitability for quality, vigorous and bold seed production, for domestic and export market which will not only save foreign exchange instead earn it besides empowering rural poor with skill, generate employment and income. High quality seed production and export is the best choice. In future, the seed sector is expected to be active and dynamic with hybrid varieties developed indigenously for domestic markets and commercial farmer.

A field experiment was conducted to study the character association for 11 yield and its contributing traits in the 93 diverse indigenous genotypes of wheat (including 3 checks) at agricultural research farm Nidharia of S.M.M.
