Stress is a generic term used to describe non-specific responses of the body to all kinds of challenges. A very large variability in the response can be observed across individuals, depending on numerous conditioning factors like genetics, early influences and life history. As a result, there is a wide range of individual vulnerability and resilience to stress, also called robustness.

Faced with a life-threatening illness, such as cancer, many patients develop stress symptoms, i.e. avoidance behaviour, intrusive thoughts and worry. Stress management interventions have proven to be effective; however, they are mostly performed in group settings and it is commonly breast cancer patients who are studied.

In general, the goal of performance reviews is to recognize how well the individual is doing his or her job and to identify ways to improve. For the executive, the board should clearly identify performance expectations and standards relevant to the orga- nization’s performance, the executive job description, the annual work plan, the development plan set in the previous evaluation, and ongoing performance feed- back given during previous board meetings.

Over the period 2002-2007 the total net worth of all individual households increased by £430.3 billion in2003, £431.1 billion in 2004, £475.8 billion in 2005, £504.9 billion in 2006 and £420.9 billion in 2007. In 2008 the net worth showed a dramatic loss of £841.2 billion, which equalled 58.7% of 2008 nominal GDP. In the years to 2011 this loss has barely been recuperated, let alone that any growth path was created identical to the 2002-2007 net worth improvements. These gains and losses arise from both produced as well as financial assets.

The other difference between the two sources is their method of firm size classification. SUSB uses the start period in classifying firm size for each individual firm and measures the difference in employment for each firm based on their end period employment minus their start period employment; this is often referred to as “start year sizing.” BED uses a firm’s start period size and classifies all employment changes at that size class until the firm changes into another size classification, even if this occurs during the period of analysis.

To be effective, risk management needs to be an ongoing and meaningful element in the management of the plan. The plan needs to do more than a ‘tick and flick’ exercise at the commencement of the project; it needs to identify who is responsible for reviewing risks on a regular basis, and how this will be done.

Finance is all about the systems, institutions and instruments involved in the transfer of funds between individuals, businesses and governments. This includes vital, short-run decisions such as cash management and credit policy, which affect the survival of an organisation, as well as long-term decisions such as investment in plant and equipment, fund-raising, and mergers and takeovers, which determine the wealth of stakeholders. Your studies in finance can lead to career opportunities and also provide useful personal money management strategies.

I mentioned that I thought it would be hard to find a job in something as specialized as Occupational Therapy on the local market, especially with the language barrier. Right away the CLO called Anne Ramos, the GEA coordinator, to see if we could meet and talk. When I met with Anne, I explained that I was a certified Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapy is the treatment of cognitive, physical, and /or psycho-social dysfunction that hinders individuals from participating in daily activities.
