Clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) seriously affects the feasibility and safety of surgical treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The aim of this study was to establish a new surgical scheme defining risk classification of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) to facilitate the surgical decision-making and identify suitable candidates for individual hepatectomy among HCC patients with CSPH.

The Tajima’s test indicated that the analysed population in balancing selection with a D-value of 2.39. A phylogenetic tree based on 455 bp of hypervariable mtDloop sequence classified 17 Bang Troi chicken individuals into three clades A, B, and E, which are common groups of Vietnamese and Asia indigenous chickens. This result provides the first genetic information and maternal lineages of Bang Troi chickens and it can support for registration of local chicken breeds.

Spatial association and species diversity of species-rich tropical forests can be characterized by their spatial patterns. We applied the quantitative analyses based on relationships of spatial distribution of tree species. In a 2-ha plot of a tropical broadleaved forest stand in Kon Ha Nung, Gia Lai province, all tree individuals with DBH ≥ 2.5 cm were mapped and their characteristics (i.e., DBH and species) were recorded.

Ebook "Modeling forest trees and stands" describing methods for quantifying individual trees, progresses to a thorough coverage of whole-stand, size-class and individual-tree approaches for modeling forest stand dynamics, growth and yield, moves on to methods for incorporating response to silvicultural treatments and wood quality characteristics in forest growth and yield models, and concludes with a discussion on evaluating and implementing growth and yield models.

Cinnamomum parthenoxylon (Jack) Meisn is one of the valuable wood trees indigenous to the lowland tropical forests of Vietnam, which is in danger of extinction due to habitat fragmentation and overexploitation. Furthermore, the genetic diversity of this species has not been investigated to date. This study evaluated the genetic diversity in five natural populations from 101 individuals representing the C. parthenoxylon distribution range in natural reserves in North Vietnam using nine SSR markers.

While the importance of gene-gene interactions in human diseases has been well recognized, identifying them has been a great challenge, especially through association studies with millions of genetic markers and thousands of individuals.

Genetic diversity is known to confer survival advantage in many species across the tree of life. Here, we hypothesize that such pattern applies to humans as well and could be a result of higher fitness in individuals with higher genomic heterozygosity.

The study was conducted to determine the above and below ground biomass of Acacia hybrid (Acacia auriculiformis*Acacia mangium) of different diameter classes at La Nga Forestry Company Limited in Dong Nai. A typical standard tree survey method was used to measure fresh biomass, the study cut down 45 trees of different ages and diameters for measuring the fresh biomass with 4 parts including trunk, branches, leaves (above-ground biomass), and roots (below-ground biomass).

In this study, we have sequences nuclear gene region (ITS-rDNA) from 9 individuals of Tacca chantrieri André belonging to three natural populations (Song Hinh Nature Reserve, Phu Yen Province; Cuc Phuong National Park, Ninh Binh province and Ba Vi National Park, Ha Noi city) to investigate genetic character and their phylogenetic inference in the genus Tacca. DNA was extracted from the tissue of leaves.

For more than a century, pearly tree frog from its type locality (East Indies; Java; Mt. Wilis) are undiscovered. Current studies about the distribution of Nyctixalus margaritifer are reported as known only from West Java and Central Java. In this paper, we collected one individual of pearly tree frog, N. margaritifer in the Western part of Mt. Wilis, which belongs to Gunung Sigogor Nature Reserve, Ponorogo, East Java. This is the third specimen, which is discovered from the Mt. Wilis after the lost holotype in 1882 and the neotype in 1885.

Aiming to describe spatial patterns, species mingling and dominance of species at fine spatial scales, we applied the quantitative analyses based on relationships of nearest neighboring trees. In two 1- ha plot of tropical evergreen forest stands in Babe National park, northern Vietnam, all tree individuals with diameter at breast height-DBH ≥ 2.5 cm were mapped and their characteristics (i.e., DBH and species) were recorded.

Core genome phylogenies are widely used to build the evolutionary history of individual prokaryote species. By using hundreds or thousands of shared genes, these approaches are the gold standard to reconstruct the relationships of large sets of strains.

Plastome-scale data have been prevalent in reconstructing the plant Tree of Life. However, phylogenomic studies currently based on plastomes rely primarily on maximum likelihood inference of concatenated alignments of plastid genes, and thus phylogenetic discordance produced by individual plastid genes has generally been ignored.

The morphology of neurons offers many insights into developmental processes and signal processing. Numerous reports have focused on metrics at the level of individual branches or whole arbors; however, no studies have attempted to quantify repeated morphological patterns within neuronal trees.

In phylogenetics, we often seek to reconcile gene trees with species trees within the framework of an evolutionary model. While the most popular models for eukaryotic species allow for only gene duplication and gene loss or only multispecies coalescence.

In present study, three important multipurpose tree species, namely Aegle marmelos, Leucaena leucocephala and Parkia roxburghii were inoculated with better performing native arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) species of the region. The AMF species viz., Acaulospora scrobiculata and Rhizophagus irregularis were inoculated individually and in combination under nursery conditions.

In fruit production, the effects of flowering and fruiting, which modify source-sink relationships, cannot be overlooked and is even more true in tropical fruit production, where the flowering and fruiting phases exceed six months at the individual tree scale. More specifically, little is known about the effects of source/sink balance, and the associated changes in carbon export rate from leaves and leaf carbohydrate concentration, like the ones resulting from the presence of developing fruits, on leaf nitrogen and photosynthetic capacity within the crown of field-growing trees.

The role of herbivore-induced plant volatiles as signals mediating the attraction of herbivore enemies is a well-known phenomenon. Studies with short-lived herbaceous plant species have shown that various biotic and abiotic factors can strongly affect the quantity, composition and timing of volatile emission dynamics.
