Ebook "A novel heme-thiolate peroxygenase AaeAPO and its implications for C–H activation chemistry" investigates the function and mechanism of a newly discovered heme-thiolate peroxygenase, AaeAPO. This enzyme class comes from Agrocybe aegerita and is used in the conversion of inert hydrocarbons to alcohols. Xiaoshi's work focuses on an extracellular P450 enzyme which is not limited in its stability and lack of solubility and therefore is relevant for widespread industrial use.

Protease production by Bacillus subtilis with free and immobilized cells was examined in this study. Entrapment method of immobilization was used with gelatin was studied compared to equivalent weight of free cells. Results showed that the alginate entrapped cells produce 3U/ml after 24h. Equivalent free cells produce 2.1 U/ml protease enzyme after 48h.

Immobilization of lipases on the particulate carriers have also been widely used for the enzyme’s efficient use. Vast industrial applications have been established such as detergent formulations, oleochemical, nutrition, textile, agrochemical industry, food technology, pharmaceutical field and fine chemical processing. Except latter three, most commercial applications do not requisite excessive purification or high degree of purity.

Pectinases find wide application in different industrial applications, e.g., textile, food, tea, paper and pulp, vegetable oil extractions, saccharification of agricultural remains, and in fermented drinks. Three fungal strains were screened for pectinase production. Results indicated that all strains are capable of producing a pectinase enzyme.

This study intended to focus on the effect of different levels of NaCl (0–400 mM, at regular intervals every 100 mM) on the growth, secondary metabolites, and antioxidant enzyme activities of Polygonum equisetiforme, a wild plant with medicinal and industrial uses, which often grows in harsh environmental conditions. Our results showed that biomass production significantly decreased with salinity, while the leaf relative water content declined only at high levels of NaCl concentration (300–400 mM).

Plant oils are very important for domestic and industrial use. Biodiesel can be obtained from plant seed oil. Biodiesel is currently popular and in demand due to the high cost of petroleum and to avoid pollution. It is time to increase plant seed oil production and conduct research to find ways of enhancing its production. We studied two species of oil seed plants, i.e. Ricinus communis and Glycine max, with varying amounts of oil content. Proteins from six categories of enzymes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis were selected for study.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a polymer that is widely used as a carrier for drug delivery systems (DDS). A library of N-PEGylated quinoline derivatives of PEG molecular weight 200 was prepared rapidly after the activation of PEGs using maleic anhydride. Quinoline with a polymer backbone is essential as new material. PEG is a water-soluble nonionic polymer approved by food and drug organizations for medicine applications. Because of its nontoxic grapheme, it is widely utilized in numerous biochemical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and industrialized applications.

The selectivity and the thermostability of EndoBI-1 and EndoBI-2 suggest that these enzymes may be useful for many scientific and industrial applications. In this study, the growing numbers of homologous sequences in different databases were exploited in a comparative approach to investigate structural properties of EndoBI-1 and EndoBI-2 enzymes. Moreover, the complete and partial homology models of these two enzymes were generated and evaluated.

The present study describes the simultaneous expression of thermostable industrial alpha (α) and beta (β) amylase enzymes that have been used widely in starch industry. Genomic DNA of Bacillus stearothermophilus DSM 22 strain for α amylase and, Thermoanaerobacterium (Clostridium) thermosulfurogenes DSM 2229 strain for β amylase were used as gene sources. Both genes were ligated into pETDuet-1 expression vector separately and resulting recombinant vectors were transformed into Escherichia coli BL21 competent cells by electroporation.

Trichoderma harzianum is used in biotechnology applications due to its ability to produce powerful enzymes for the conversion of lignocellulosic substrates into soluble sugars. Active enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism are defined as carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes), and the most abundant family in the CAZy database is the glycoside hydrolases. The enzymes of this family play a fundamental role in the decomposition of plant biomass.

Plant biomass is the most abundant carbon source for many fungal species. In the biobased industry fungi, are used to produce lignocellulolytic enzymes to degrade agricultural waste biomass. Here we evaluated if it would be possible to create an Aspergillus nidulans strain that releases, but does not metabolize hexoses from plant biomass.

Microbial transglutaminase (MTGase) is an enzyme widely used in food industry. In this study, MTGases had been applied to produce fresh cheese made from whole milk powder. A set of 18 experiments was carried out to evaluate the influence of factors in reconstituted milk treatment with MTGase. A response surface methodology was applied to evaluate quality properties of fresh cheese via objective functions of hardness, yield, protein content, total solid content and sensory evaluation score. In this model, three factors were enzyme concentration (0.6 - 3.
