Leptospirosis is a common zoonosis, an infectious disease that infects both humans and animals, which is caused by spirochete bacteria from genus Leptospira. Approximately 30% of children in urban Detroit and 16% of adults in Baltimore demonstrated serologic evidence of previous leptospirosis infections. Pet dogs are important companion animals that share the environment within households, and play an important role in local community life. In addition, pet dogs also are reservoirs of zoonotic agents, including Rickettsia spp., thus increasing the risk of rickettsial infections in humans. It’s meaningful to investigate the epidemiology of rickettsial agents in pet dogs, and make contribute to the surveillance of rickettsioses in human in China.

In the present study, susceptibility of the silkworm, Bombyx mori to the pathogens of mulberry pest Glyphodes pyloalis was ascertained. Silkworm, Bombyx mori inoculated with the pathogens isolated from G. pyloalis (Microsporidian and Nuclear Polyhedral Virus) showed high mortality at larval and pupal stages. Silkworms inoculated with Microsporidian showed mortality of 53.66% at larval stage whereas silkworms inoculated with Nuclear Polyhedral Virus showed mortality of 61.00% at larval stage.

Intestinal parasitic infections are prevalent in conditions which have poor hygiene, environment and sanitation. Orphans always lack in basic monetary and sanitary assets in their livelihood. Overcrowded places with lack of cleanliness like orphanages and destitute homes are most dangerous as the infection spreads through them swiftly leading to multiple infections (1). In this tender age group, children are not outspoken about their problems, which can increase the chronicity of the infestation leading to serious impairment in their health.

Channa punctatus is one of the most delicious and demandable freshwater fishes of the country because of its high nutritional value, cheap cost and availability in the local markets. These fishes are often infected by parasites, which decrease the rate of growth as well as the reproduction rate of the host fishes, resulting in deteriorating the food value of fishes and economic loss to the culturists. Study of parasites is therefore an urgent necessity today.
