Porcine epidemic diarrhoea (PED) is a highly contagious infectious disease with negative economic impacts on the swine industry. PED outbreaks were reported from 2009 to 2015, but sporadic infection has been observed until now in Vietnam. However, the seroprevalence of PEDV infection has not yet been reported for commercial pig farms in Vietnam.

Bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) is the member of the genus Pestivirus within the Flaviviridae family and responsible for severe economic losses in the cattle industry. BVDV can employ ‘infect-and-persist’ strategy and ‘hit-and-run’ strategy to remain associated with hosts and thus contributes to BVDV circulation in cattle herds.

Escherichia coli are recognized indicators of faecal contamination. However, this perspective has changed with the ability of some strains of E. coli to cause human illness. The pathogenic E. coli strains can cause a variety of diseases, including diarrhoea, dysentery, and haemolytic uremic syndrome, bladder and kidney infections. Different strains are usually associated with different diseases; this versatility of E. coli strains is due to the different strains possessing unique virulence genes.

Escherichia coli is normal inhabitant of intestine of animals E. coli strains cause a wide variety of intestinal and extra intestinal diseases such as diarrhoea, urinary tract Infection, septicemia, and meningitis in neonates. Bacterial meningitis is often seen in neonatal calves as a sequele of septicemia caused by E. coli with multiple body system and organ involvement. Series of 32 calves of meningitis in neonatal calves, the post frequent clinical findings were lethargy, recumbancy, loss of suck reflex, stupper and comma.

In this study, stool samples from cases of diarrhoea patients’ ≤ 2 years of age were tested to detect the Rotavirus antigen in the stool specimen by immuno-chromatography test with an aim to know the cause of diarrhoea. If it is of viral origin, unnecessary administration of antibiotics can be prevented and thus help in right and proper management of the patient.

Enteric microbial agents in HIV differ in several ways between developing and developed world, the awareness of which can often guide appropriate prevention and patient treatment when limitation of resources prevent laboratory diagnosis of exact etiological agent. The primary objective of this study was to define and compare enteric bacterial pathogens in HIV-1 infected with diarrheal symptoms and non-HIV infected controls with diarrheal symptoms at a tertiary care hospital in northern India.

Diarrhoea, although easily curable, is a global cause of death for a half million children every year. Rotavirus and Campylobacter are the most common etiological agents of diarrhoea in children less than 5 years of age. However, in Nepal, these causative agents are not routinely examined for the diagnosis and treatment.

There has been a growing interest in the non-skeletal roles of vitamin D particularly its immunemodulatory properties which has been shown to influence the susceptibility and severity to infections. There is insufficient data globally on the association between Vitamin D levels and Diarrhoea in children.
