  • The influence of abiotic factors on the charcoal rot incidence caused by the fungus M. phaseolina has been analysed statistically by subjecting weekly weather data with disease incidence data to Multiple Linear Regression analysis. It revealed that there was no significant relation was observed in rainfall and minimum temperature with disease incidence.

  • The objective of this work was to identify and characterize biochemical, morphological and enzymatic activity, as well as the influence of abiotic factors in a Pantoea isolated from industrial laundry effluent in Pernambuco. The results showed that the bacterium presents characteristics similar to those presented by the species of Pantoea agglomerans; however, the biochemical and morphological tests were not enough to accurately identify the species.

  • Intercultural practices in banana contribute immensely to better yield, quality and appearance regarding the market value of the fruits. Bunch covering being one of the most important practices, has high influence in improving all aspects, fetching a better price to the banana growers. Bunch covering, traditionally done by wrapping bunch with dry leaves, is now upgraded by the use of synthetic materials which has opened new windows with an attempt to view better scenery in banana production, which is influenced by several biotic and abiotic factors.

  • AESA based IPM emphasizes on plant compensation ability, abiotic factors and Pest: Defender (P:D) ratio. Through FFS (Farmer Field School) participants observe and monitor all elements of the agro-ecosystem on farm and learn how to make management decisions in order to minimize the effects of adverse climate change.

  • Agricultural production continues to be constrained by a number of biotic and abiotic factors that can reduce crop yield quantity and quality. Potassium (K) is an essential nutrient that affects most of the physiological processes that influence plant growth. To understand the effect of potassium, a pot culture experiment was carried out with graded levels of potassium to study the influence of potassium on physiological parameters of maize in black calcareous and non-calcareous soils.

  • Earthworm diversity and distribution patterns are generally governed by a variety of biotic and abiotic factors such as soil properties, surface litter, vegetation type and, land use pattern, local or regional climate and anthropogenic activities. In the present study we have analysed the earthworm diversity and soil analysis of Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala and Kanuvai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

  • Acorus calamus L. an aromatic rhizomatous herb plant has a long history as a medicine which is often used as stimulant, mild tonic, carminative, diaphoretic, expectorant, hypertensive, sedative and also used in the treatment of arthritis, neuralgia, diarrhea, dyspepsia, hair loss and other disorder. Among the several constraints in productivity of this medicinal plant, abiotic stress relating to disease is the major one. The rust disease caused by Uromyces spp is one of the important disease causing huge losses of the plant and is greatly influenced by the abiotic factors.

  • The population dynamics studies were carried out in the orchard of CCS HAU, Hisar from April to November during 2016 on kinnow (Citrus nobilis × Citrus deliciosa). The citrus butterfly is one of the economically important pests whose larval forms cause serious damage by devouring large quantity of foliage of Rutaceae family with special preference towards both wild and cultivated species of citrus during the later stages of their development.

  • The cuticular wax layer covers the aerial surface of plants and acts as a barrier between plants and the environment. The cuticle plays a key role in the protection of plants from pathogens, UV light, and transpiration. Variation in the wax quality and quantity is influenced by factors like the solvent used for extraction, species, ontogeny, and season.

  • Plant litter decomposition is controlled by both biotic and abiotic factors. It has been widely hypothesized that litter quality and climatic and soil conditions regulate decomposition. The present study examined the decomposition of native forest tree litter on 2 aspects (the north and the south) and at 3 altitudes (top, middle, and bottom) on each aspect in Artvin province to determine the influence of litter quality, microclimate, and soil characteristics on the rate of decomposition.

  • Over the past decade, our understanding of plant adaptation to environmental stress, including both constitutive and inducible determinants, has grown con- siderably. This book focuses on stress caused by the inanimate components of the environment associated with climatic, edaphic and physiographic factors that substantially limit plant growth and survival. Categorically these are abiotic stresses, which include drought, salinity, non-optimal temperatures and poor soil nutrition.
