Up to the present time, there has remained a lack of strong evidence as to whether sentinel lymph node biopsy can replace lymphadenectomy for early endometrial cancer. The traditional surgery for endometrial cancer includes pelvic lymphadenectomy and paraaortic lymph node resection, but complications often seriously afect patients’ quality of life.

This work demonstrates a new design of an imaging objective operating in the near-infrared spectral region for vein finder devices. The objective has a simple structure, consisting of 6 elements divided into 2 groups and a long-pass optical filter that allows a near-infrared spectrum to pass through.

This paper describes a system for measurement of the IRPL signal from single sand-sized grains of feldspar. The attachment uses an electron-multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) imaging system, and has two innovations that make it possible to use such a detector to obtain IRPL data.

Spatially resolved optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) offers a means for rapid assessment of dose distributions in retrospective dosimetry and geochronology. Until recently, OSL imaging systems have largely been restricted to measurements of millimetre scale samples; this approach is not well suited for applications where the physical process of interest operates on centimetre scale (e.g., depth dependent trap eviction in exposed rocks, sediment mixing in soils, attenuation of gamma radiation, etc.).

The new InfraRed PhotoLuminescence (IRPL) signal in feldspar offers a promising alternative to the wellestablished OSL method to recover the absorbed radiation dose for dating purposes. The non-destructive readout using Stokes shifted photoluminescence offers the opportunity to carry out repeat measurements to improve the signal to noise ratio, and the steady state signal enables straightforward spatially and spectrally resolved measurements.

In this paper, we demonstrate a homemade setup and an image processing algorithm to evaluate the image quality of optical systems working in the spectral region of 8-12 µm. The working principle of our approach relies on measuring the line spread function (LSF) and the modulation transfer function.

Low-cost, nanoscale zinc hexacyanoferrate (ZnHF), an effective adsorbent for cesium (Cs+) and strontium (Sr2+) removal, was prepared using the chemical co-precipitation method. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) spectra, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images were performed to determine the morphologies of ZnHF.

Medical infrared thermal imaging (MITI) is a non-invasive imaging modality gaining popularity in the veterinary field. An infrared camera captures emission of heat and creates a color map in the form of a thermogram. Topical heat emission is influenced by localized disease processes as a result of autonomic nervous system imbalance.

The horses’ backs are particularly exposed to overload and injuries due to direct contact with the saddle and the influence of e.g. the rider’s body weight. The maximal load for a horse’s back during riding has been suggested not to exceed 20% of the horses’ body weight.

Methyl 4-((9H-(carbazole-9-carbanothioylthio) benzoate (MCzCTB) was chemically synthesized and characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. A novel synthesized monomer was electropolymerized on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in various initial molar concentrations of [MCzCTB] 0 = 1,3,5, and 10mM in 0.1M NaClO4/CH3CN and 1M H2SO4. P(MCzCTB)/GCE was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, Fourier transform infrared-attenuated transmittance reflectance, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Recently, the innovative vein finder system has been studied extensively and has many practical uses in healthcare and security. Developing a better vein finder system often relies on image processing procedures which help to enhance the vein images. Conventional image processing procedures as median filtering and adaptive histogram equalization have shown benefit in enhancing vein patterns. However, in some cases when there are hairs present in the images, most of these procedures are less effective in removing noises from hairs.

This paper proposes a dorsal hand vein detection method utilising the near-infrared (NIR) imaging device to segment and visualise the subcutaneous vein patterns on the skin directly. Applying NIR light has received substantial attention because of its non-invasive and revealing substantially more information than the visible one.
