Resveratrol has demonstrated its ability to regulate BRCA1 gene expression in breast cancer cells, and previous studies have established the binding of MBD proteins to BRCA1 gene promoter regions. The aimed to evaluate the impact of MBD proteins on the regulation of BRCA1, BRCA2, and p16 genes and their consequential effects on breast cancer cells.

In recent studies, Azadirachta indica, Andrographis paniculate, Ocimum canum and Pongamia pinnata, which are inhibitors derived from plants have been used to provide corrosion inhibition effect. The inhibitive ability of C. albidum in several corrosive media reported by researchers has prompted its examination in 1 M H2SO4 solution using polarization techniques, gravimetric and gasometric in this present work.

Epidermal growthfactor receptor(EGFR) and human epithelium receptor-2(HER2) are members of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR/ErbB) family implicated in the development of many types of carcinoma. Zanthoxylum simulans Hance has the effect of inhibiting growth and causing the death of many types of cancer cells. In this study, the molecular docking method and molecular dynamics simulations were used to evaluate the inhibition abilities of EGFR and HER2 receptors of 120 compounds in Zanthoxylum simulans Hance.

Diabetes is a type of metabolic disorder, which is the cause of many dangerous complications. Ensete glaucum (Musaceae family) has active ingredients with antioxidant and hypoglycemic characteristics in some parts of the plant. This study investigates the ability to reduce blood sugar based on the inhibition of αamylase and α-glucosidase enzymes of Ensete glaucum stem extract.

Lactic acid bacteria widely used in food preservation at refrigerator temperatures due to their ability produce high amount of hydrogen peroxide and/or other antibacterial substances at refrigerator temperatures to inhibit food-borne pathogens and psychrophilic spoilage microorganisms. In order to improve of bio-preservation efficacy of Lactobacillus acidophilus GH 201 mutations causing resistance to rifampicin (rif) were used.

Melatonin has a long history of studies which confirm its ability to inhibit cancer growth. Melatonin is present in high concentrations in the mitochondria of normal cells but is likely absent from the mitochondria of cancer cells, at least when isolated from tumors harvested during the day.

Emulsified isoflurane (EIso) is a novel intravenous general anesthetic, which can provide rapid anesthetic induction and recovery. EIso preconditioning could attenuate heart, lung and liver ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. We tested the hypothesis that intravenous pretreatment with EIso would protect kidneys against I/R injury by inhibiting systemic inflammatory responses and improving renal antioxidative ability.

Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective adrenergic receptor agonist, which has a dose-dependent sedative hypnotic effect. Furthermore, it also has pharmacological properties, and the ability to inhibit sympathetic activity and improve cardiovascular stability during an operation. However, its protective effect on patients with severe craniocerebral injury in the perioperative period remains unclear

We report here that earthworm can be used as an in vivo system to prescreen antimitotic compounds. The known antimitotic compound colchicine and the aqueous extract of Acorus calamus L. rhizome were used to examine this system. The antimitotic activity of colchicine and the rhizome extract was confirmed by methods with Allium cepa root tip, earthworm regeneration, and MTT (3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazolyl-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide). An earthworm regeneration assay examined the regeneration ability of tissues from amputated regions of the earthworm.

Many natural compounds have excellent activity against different bacteria. However, their food use to inhibit the bacteria is often limited by poor water solubility, or instability to light, heat, oxygen, and other environmental factors. Cyclodextrin combines with these natural compounds could not only overcome these shortcomings, but also increase the antibacterial ability of active compounds. This review focuses on the following aspects of active natural compounds in cyclodextrin-based food: the preparation, food applications, and their possible antibacterial mechanisms of different systems.

This strain showed high activity in fresh goat cheese (11–15 mm inhibition zone) having the ability to prevent the development of S. aureus, also reducing the inoculum level of pathogen by about 1 log cycle. These results revealed that this strain could be a promising biopreservative starter for the dairy industry. To the author ’s knowledge, this is the first report of L. plantarum being isolated in salted dried camel meat.

This finding was further confirmed genotypically by polymerase chain reaction that showed the presence of efflux genes AcrA, AcrB, TolC and mdtk in these isolates. The ability of metformin to inhibit efflux activity was compared with the reference efflux pump inhibitors verapamil and ascorbic acid. Metformin was more active than ascorbic acid and less active than verapamil. Up to our knowledge, this is the first report that shows that metformin has an efflux pump-inhibiting activity in Klebsiella pneumoniae.

This combination of paclitaxel and curcumin gave a higher efficiency of both drugs in cytotoxicity, induced apoptosis, and effect on cell cycles of KPL4 cell line in comparison with the use of paclitaxel or curcumin alone or even a normal mixture of these two compounds. Furthermore, PTX-Cur/PLA-TPGS nanoparticles exhibited a powerful ability in preventing MCF7 spheroids growth. Interestingly, curcumin also functioned as both a drug and a label. Based on the autofluorescence of curcumin, the absorption of PTX-Cur/PLA-TPGS nanoparticles into MCF7 spheroids could be followed and calculated.

Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) transition metal complexes of 2-hydroxy-5-[(E)-(4-phenyl) diazenyl] benzaldehyde oxime and 2-hydroxy-5-[(E)-(4-nitrophenyl) diazenyl] benzaldehyde oxime ligands were synthesized and characterized through NMR, IR, ESI mass, and UV analysis. DNA binding abilities of the complexes were revealed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer with the absorption titration and competitive binding techniques. Hydrolytic and oxidative DNA cleavage activities under different conditions were also proved.

Quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) analysis of 28 quinoline-arylamidine (CQArA) hybrids against two leukemia cells, K562 and Raji, was performed. Multiple linear regression (MLR) models were obtained by genetic algorithm. The best models involved the following descriptors: radial distribution function (RDF) descriptors, GETAWAY (GEometry, Topology, and Atom-Weights AssemblY) descriptor, bond information content index, and dipole moment. The best MLR models for K562 and Raji cells demonstrated satisfactory stability in internal and external validation.

Previously, it was shown that human TWIST1 (basic helix-loop-helix (b-HLH) is phosphorylated by Akt kinase at S42, T121, and S123. To show in vivo effect of these phosphorylations, we created mouse TWIST1 expression vector and converted the codons of S42, T125, and S127 to unphosphorylatable alanine and phosphorylation mimicking Glutamic acid. We hypothesized that alanine mutants would inhibit the metastatic ability of 4T1 cells while glutamic acid mutants would convert nonmetastatic 67NR cells into metastatic phenotype.
