Inorganic nutrients on seed
-
Studies on evaluation of the influence of seed fortification with inorganic nutrients as pre-sowing seed management technique expressed that KH2PO4 and KCl at 1 per cent among the nutrients (MgSO4, MnSO4, ZnSO4, FeSO4, borax) were highly suitable for invigourating the seed and seedling quality characters. The seeds were fortified in the respective solution for a duration of 16 h with equal volume of seed to solution ratio.

A field experiment was conducted on a silty clay loam soil (acidic in reaction and medium in available NPK) during Rabi 2018-19 at Palampur to study the influence of nutrient management practices (Inorganic (RDF), Organic, Natural and Integrated) and varieties (‘Him Palam Alsi-2’, ‘Himani’ and ‘Priyam’) on yield, uptake, quality and soil properties in linseed. Results, revealed that among different nutrient management practices, Integrated Nutrient Management being at par with inorganic practice resulted in significantly higher seed, straw, uptake of NPK and oil yield.

The application of farmyard manure (FYM) in conjunction with inorganic fertilizers significantly increased yield attributes and yield of rice. Application of FYM improved available nutrients, porosity, organic carbon, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and aggregation of soil and reduced bulk density. Inorganic fertilizers in conjunction with FYM improved quality parameters of rice.

Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is the most important cash crop and there is a demand for simultaneous increase in the productivity of cotton, edible oilseeds and fodders to fulfil the diversified needs of growing population. For this purpose, cotton-based intercropping seems to be a promising strategy. Short duration legume fodders are potential sources of nutrients during summer especially atmospheric nitrogen fixing which are supplement of inorganic fertilizers.

The status of nutrients-their depletion and build up in soil and crop productivity after twenty two years (1991-2012) of cotton mono-cropping were studied under continuous use of various inorganic fertilizers and organic manure in a Vertisol. Results showed that application of 100% RD of NPK (90:45:45 kg ha-1 ) +FYM @ 10 t ha-1 recorded highest seed cotton yield of 2181 kg ha-1 which was on par with 150% RD of NPK treated plot.

The outcomes for preliminary investigation on Roselle seed flour revealed appreciable proximate and mineral compositions suggesting a strong positive correlation between protein and inorganic mineral contents. This shows that Roselle seed is a dense mineral source and confirmed that Roselle seed is a rich source of nutrients. The outcomes for calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) corroborate the findings reported by previous scientists.

A field experiment was conducted at KVK, Kalburgi, on black soils. The zero tillage practices were followed since 3 years in five main plots and different reduced nutrient levels were imposed as subplots, by following split plot design. Every year same crop pigeonpea genotype TS-3R was grown. The prophylactic measures were undertaken against pests and diseases. Biological observations were analysed at 50 per cent flowering.

Studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of inorganic and organic fertilization on growth, yield of wheat and nutrient status of the soil. Significant differences in the vegetative growth parameters viz. plant height, number of green leaves, number of tillers/meter row length and yield parameters viz. Spike length, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains/ear, number of ear heads/m2 , test weight, straw yield and biological yield was highest under the application of 50 % recommended dose of fertilizers along with application of 5 t/ha vermicompost (T7).

Teff (Eragrostis tef) grass is a minor millet belonging to grass family Poaceae. Being a minor-millet it can withstand adverse conditions of soil and climatic factors. Ethiopia is the major teff grass producing country, a staple food for most of the population of the country. Today’s world is more concerned about healthy life which depends on consumption of nutritionally rich food products. Teff is nutritionally rich millet as compared to other cereals and is gluten free, can be substituted for wheat which causes celiac disease due to gluten protein.
