Ebook "Nanomicrobiology: Physiological and environmental characteristics" is devoted to nanomicrobiology and the nanosystems of bacteria. The initial chapter discusses some of the controversies in the geochemical and biomedical fields associated with the reports of nanobacteria in the environment. Current knowledge of several internal and surface structures of bacteria is addressed in this book. Included are chapters discussing carboxysomes, S-layers, gliding motility of bacteria, and aggregation of iron to produce nano-magnetite.

One-pot syntheses of the value-added heterocyclic compounds 3-methylpyridine and pyridine using a renewable chemical, glycerol, were achieved in acidic medium by thermal conversion reactions. Condensation/cyclization reactions of the thermal degradation products of glycerol were investigated in situ using different ammonia and acidic moiety producing inorganic ammonium salts under pyrolysis or microwave heating conditions.

The templated porous carbons were prepared from sucrose by one-pot method. In this method in which the pre-synthesis of the hard template is eliminated, the porous carbons were produced by organic-inorganic self-assembly of sucrose, tetraethyl ortosilicate (TEOS), Pluronic P123 and n-butanol in an acidic medium, and subsequent carbonization. The synthesis parameters such as sucrose amount, TEOS molar ratio and carbonization temperature were evaluated for describing their effects on the pore structures of the synthesized carbons.

Glycopeptide antibiotics inhibit bacterial cell-wall synthesis, and are important for the treatment of infections caused by multi drug-resistant strains of enterococci, streptococci and staphylococci. The main mechanism by which bacteria resist the action of glycopeptides is by producing a modified cell-wall in which the dipeptide D-Alanine-D-Alanine is substituted by D-Alanine-D-Lactate or D-Alanine-D-Serine. Recently, it has been shown that inorganic phosphate (Pi) induces hypersensitivity to vancomycin in Streptomyces coelicolor (which is highly resistant to the antibiotic in low-Pi media).

This study, the rice straw was pretreated with sodium hydroxide as the step of rice straw pretreatment in bioethanol production, and then lignin was recovered by acidification method. The obtained lignin was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) to confirm the chemical structure, inorganic matter. To produce sodium lignosulfonate (NaLS), the sulfomethylation was conducted between lignin, formalin, and sodium sulfite.

The continuous use or excess supply of inorganic fertilizers as source of nutrient in imbalanced proportion is also a problem, causing economic inefficiency, damage to the environment and in certain situations, harm the plants themselves and also to human being who consume them. On the other hand, increase in productivity of horticultural produce removes large amounts of essential nutrients from the soil. Without proper management, continuous production of crops reduces nutrient reserves in the soil.

A total of 17 endophytic actinomycete strains were obtained from 6 medicinal plants of Mizoram, Northeast, India. 16S rRNA results showed 13 (73.3%) of the isolates belonged to the genus Streptomyces, 2 (13.3%) were Nocardiopsis, 1 (6.6%) were Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens and 1 (6.6%) Actinobacteria bacterium. The highest number of endophytic actinomycetes was isolated from root tissue of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. (29.4%) followed by stem of Mikania micrantha Kunth. WI. and rhizome of Costus speciosus (J. Konig).

Abinash-2) was conducted at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa (Samastipur) in 2014-15. Four different source of nutrient supply i.e. (I) inorganic N,P, K fertilizers (100: 50: 50 kg/ha), (II) FYM @ 15 t/ha (III) Vermicompost @ 6 t/ha, and (IV) Mustard cake @ 1 t/ha along with three set of bio-fertilizers viz.

Plant growth promoting rhizo-bacteria (PGPR) affect plant growth by producing and releasing secondary metabolites (plant growth regulators/phytohormones/biologically active substances), facilitating the availability and uptake of certain nutrients from the root environment and inhibiting plant pathogenic organisms in the rhizosphere. At the same time, plants produce root exudates containing e.g. sugars, amino acids, organic acids, vitamins, enzymes and organic or inorganic ions.

Soil enzymes play a major role in mineralization of nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur. mineralization is the process of transformation of organically bound elements into mineral form which will readily taken up by plants and is crucial to plant nutrition and indirectly plays a role agriculture productivity. The enzyme phosphatase plays an important role in providing the plant its nutrition. In most soils, the organically bound P- fraction is higher than the inorganic. Phosphorus uptake by plants requires mineralization of the organic P component by phosphatases to available form.

Nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) for the crop plants is of great concerns throughout the world. The burgeoning population of the world needs crop genotypes responding to higher nitrogen and showing a direct relationship to yield with the use of nitrogen inputs i.e. high nitrogen-responsive genotypes. However, for fulfilling the high global demand of organic produce, it requires the development of low nitrogen-responsive genotypes with greater nitrogen use efficiency and grain yields. Nitrogen is the most important inorganic nutrient for plant growth.

Dairy industry is one of the leading food industries in India. Dairy is one of the major industries causing water pollution with its large water consumption approximately 50 m 3wastewater daily with considerable concentration of organic and inorganic matter. In present study cyanobacterial species were isolated from dairy industries wastewater and explored for removal of nutrients from dairy wastewater simultaneously biomass produced again used for extraction of high value compounds.

The Wheat crop use of inorganic fertilizers for the past 50 years without any addition of organic manures resulted in the large scale deficiency of micro nutrients which play an important role in enhancing the quality and quantity of the agriculture produce. Further nutrient losses in inorganic fertilizer is very high and loss of nutrients like NO3 sometime leads to water pollution.
