Reliable marking systems are critical to the prospective field release of transgenic insect strains. This is to unambiguously distinguish released insects from wild insects in the field that are collected in field traps, and tissue-specific markers, such as those that are sperm-specific, have particular uses such as identifying wild females that have mated with released males.

During the 2017 season we investigated the occurrence and biology of the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), Halyomorpha halys, a new invasive insect pest in two commercial hazelnut orchards located in the Samegrelo Region, Republic of Georgia. The first stink bug adults from the overwintering generation appeared on sticky traps at the end of May, while all instar nymphs and adults were observed at the end of July and through August. The peak occurrence of adults and nymphs in the field was observed at 896– 1061 DD13.9.

Evaluation of light trap against different coloured electric bulbs for trapping phototrophic insects
The present investigation was conducted during November 2014 to April 2015 at the experimental research farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (Chhattisgarh). Evaluation of light trap using different coloured lights revealed that ordinary tungsten filament light was found to be most effective (41.54%) followed by yellow (21.83%), blue (13.73%) and green colour light (12.52%), whereas red colour light was least effective (10.36%) based on the number of insects caught in the light trap.

Field experiments were conducted during Kharif 2016 and 2017 to manage yellow vein mosaic virus in Okra with seven modules along with one control. The module consists of use of either seed treatment or yellow sticky trap singly or in combination with neem oil (bio-pesticide), one insect growth regulator and two new generation insecticides to manage the vector population of whitefly which transmit the disease.

The study was carried out during 2013-14 in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh state to focus on the sugarcane growers regarding impact of knowledge on adoption level of IPM practices. The 80 contact farmers were selected as respondents. The study revealed that the maximum knowledge gap was found to be existing in previous crop residues, crop rotation, hand picking of the insect and their destruction, hot air and water treatment, light and pheromone trap, microbial control, use of natural enemies, resistant varieties, biopesticides/ bio-agents, application and dose of different pest etc.

The study was undertaken at Raj Mohini Devi College of Agriculture and Research Station, Ambikapur during 2017-18 for diversity of insect pollinators/ visitors in bitter gourd ecosystem. Different insect pollinators/ visitors i.e. Apis dorsata, A. indica, A. florea, xylocopa, black ant and small ants were recorded in different fluorescent colored pan trap i.e. White, yellow and blue at different flowering period onset of bloom, full bloom and end of bloom of bitter gourd.

The peak population of mustard aphid on yellow sticky traps was recorded with 35.4±2.9 aphids/trap from 7th SW and it was active from 45th SW to 14th SW, where it was on peak with 712.4±16.4 aphids/plant under the field condition from untreated plots at 3rd SW. Coccinella septempunctatas active from 50th SW to 13th SW of the season and peak population noticed from 5th SW with 14±0.4 grubs and adults/plant.

The bacteria Photorhabdus associated symbiotically with the entomopathogenic nematodes of genus Heterorhabditis is an effective killer of insect-pests belonging to a different order. The bacteria Photorhabdus encodes numerous toxins once inside the midgut of insects and cause rapid death by employing multiple toxicity mechanism. In this paper, we isolated the bacteria Photorhabdus associated with Heterorhabditis nematodes using a modified White trap and demonstrated a bioassay of toxicity against last instar larva of wax moth Galleria mellonella.

A solar photovoltaic insect light trap was developed consisted of 10 Wp SPV panel, 12 V; 7 Ah lead acid battery, charge controller, dusk to down electrical circuit and adjustable stand. As per design calculations the trap was fabricated in the workshop. The performance of solar photovoltaic insect light trap was taken in the farmer’s cotton crop field Vazegaon, Dist. Akola (Maharashtra), for finding out the efficiency of the developed solar insect light trap and insect trapping during night hours.

Studies were conducted on the incidence of maize stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) at DARS, Budgam, SKUAST-K during the Kharif season, 2015. The incidence of the insect was assessed in maize variety C-15 sown in April 2015. The lowest leaf infestation recorded during entire crop season was first observed in 18th standard week (SW) (1 st week of May) with leaf infestation of 4.00 per cent while the highest infestation was recorded in 28th SW (2nd week of July) as 48.50 per cent. The lowest dead heart occurrence of 6.

The Terminalia arjuna (Roxb.) Wight & Arn. (Combretaceae) is an important commercial crop in India. It has been utilized as a primary food for rearing of the tropical tasar silkworm, Antheraea mylitta by the rural and tribal people in India as a livelihood practice. Due to its continuous utilization for rearing of silkworm, majority of the T. arjuna block plantations have been showing sickness and susceptible for variety of pests and diseases.

In this paper we present the results of original research in applying electronic - automation techniques to create traps to catch and kill harmful insects. The techniques base on living habit of some Insect Pests of Tea. The traps are supplied by solar energy. These traps can also be used to catch several other kinds of harmful insects such as mosquitoes, flies.

This category of pests is widespread and affects every stage of poultry production to a greater or lesser extent. The house fly (Musca domestica) and other fly species with similar biology and habits can generally be managed with minimal use of pesticides where appropriate cultural and biological control practices are most effective (broiler breeders and layers). Manure management to reduce moisture reduces fly-breeding potential and enhances the effectiveness of naturally occurring fly parasites and predators.

This book contains 20 chapters about the impact, environmental fate, modes of action, efficacy, and non-target effects of insecticides. The chapters are divided into 7 parts. Part 1 covers the non-target effects of insecticides, whereas part 2 is dedicated to integrated methods for pest control, in which insecticides are an important element for diminishing the populations of insect pests.

Plants are preyed on by insects and fungi; and they are subject to various kinds of disease that, for the most part, are not yet understood. They are often injured also by mice and rabbits (p. 144), by moles, dogs, cats, and chickens; and fruit is eaten by birds. Moles may be troublesome on sandy land; they heave the ground by their burrowing and may often be killed by stamping when the burrow is being raised; there are mole traps that are more or less successful. Dogs and cats work injury mostly by walking across newly made gardens or...

Some people's ears produce wax like busy little bees. This can be a problem even though earwax appears to serve an important purpose. Experts say it protects and cleans the ear. It traps dirt and other matter and keeps insects out. Doctors think it might also help protect against infections. And the waxy oil keeps ears from getting too dry.
