Plant breeding for resistance to agricultural pests is an essential element in the development of integrated crop management systems; however, the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying resistance are poorly understood. In this pilot study, a transcriptomic analysis of a resistant (R) vs. a susceptible (S) variety of alfalfa, with (+T) or without (−T) thrips (= 4 treatments) was conducted, ‘GN-1’ (China) was defined as the resistant cultivar, and ‘WL323’ (America) was defined as the susceptible cultivar.

In Karnataka Mandya district is one of the important paddy growing area. Mono cropping, faulty cultivation practices with continuous submerged conditions are causing higher pest and disease incidence and leading to lower yield. In this context KrishiVigyana Kendra, Mandya demonstrated integrated pest and disease management practices in 30 farmer’s field. The soil of the experimental site was sandy loam in texture with pH of 5.7, organic carbon of 0.52 % having available soil nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium of 390.9 kg/ha, 10.1 kg/ha and 190.1 kg/ha respectively.

The present study was conducted in Andhra Pradesh with the objective to assess the economic impact of Farmers’ Field Schools (FFSs). The total sample size was 240 comprising 120 FFS farmers and 120 non-FFS farmers selected through random sampling method from three districts of Andhra Pradesh. The double difference method was used by analysing change in performance before and after the programme for FFS farmers to the change in performance over the same period for non-FFS farmers unaffected by the programme. The farmers were interviewed by using a structured interview schedule.
