Predators are important links in the food chain and are needed to maintain herbivore population in crop ecosystem in check. However, like other insects, they are also vulnerable to various weather factors, which impedes the natural control that they contribute to the ecosystem. Information on impact of weather factors on predators helps to understand natural control better and also formulate integrated pest management practices.

A field experiment was carried out during the rabi season of 2011-12 and 2012-13 at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour (Bihar) to assess the effect of integrated weed management practices on weed dynamics, productivity and nutrient uptake of maize (Zea mays L.). Results revealed that weed management practices had positive influence on growth, yield attributes, yields and nutrient uptake of maize. Significantly lower weed density, weed dry weight and weed control efficiency (WCE %) were recorded in zero tillage (ZT) compared with conventional tillage (CT).

An experiment was conducted during rabi 2010-11 to study the influence of integrated weed management on β-carotene content and Vit-C content of carrot. The results indicated that the influence of integrated weed management on these quality parameters was found to be non-significant. However, maximum β-carotene content (8291.205 µg) and Vit-C content (6.30mg per 100 gms) were recorded with treatment Metribuzin 0.3 kg a.i ha-1 (PE) + Hand Weeding 30 DAS and the minimum were recorded in unweeded control.

Stem rot of rice, caused by Sclerotia oryzae is a serious threat to rice production in India. Fungicides only provide limited control of this pathogen but also have ill effects on the environment. In an attempt to develop better integrated strategies for management of this disease, a field study was conducted during rabi 2017-18 to evaluate the strategies of integration of effective fungicide Hexaconazole (0.2 %) and the bacterial antagonistic isolate P.F-4 which were effective against S. oryzae in vitro studies.

An experiment was conducted for two consecutive years during rabi season of 2014-15 and 2015-16 to manage the onion thrips using three treatment modules viz., M1- IPM module, M2- Farmers’ practice and M3-Untreated control. It has been observed that the IPM module was the best in achieving the maximum leaf growth and bulb yield in both the years (2014-15 and 2015-16) followed by farmers’ practice module.
