  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is grown in tropical and subtropical regions of the world for its spice and medicinal values. The emergence and early growth of ginger is inherently slow and weed growth can impact on yield. It has slow initial growth rate and shallow root system. As a result, it is invaded by a variety of weeds. A field experiment was carried out during 2015-16 and 2016-17 in randomized block design with three replications under AICRP on Weed Management at College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, India with nine treatments.

  • Presence of diverse weed flora during critical period of crop-weed competition, is one of the major obstacles in conservation agriculture that reduces which can reduce the crop yield appreciably significantly. During critical period of crop-weed competition, chemical method of weed control is by far the most preferred way to minimize the weed infestation of weeds, farmers are mostly relying on chemical methods of weed management.

  • A field experiment was carried out during the rabi season of 2011-12 and 2012-13 at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour (Bihar) to assess the effect of integrated weed management practices on weed dynamics, productivity and nutrient uptake of maize (Zea mays L.). Results revealed that weed management practices had positive influence on growth, yield attributes, yields and nutrient uptake of maize. Significantly lower weed density, weed dry weight and weed control efficiency (WCE %) were recorded in zero tillage (ZT) compared with conventional tillage (CT).

  • A field experiments was conducted during Kharif seasons 2007 at Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh, Gujarat to study the effect of weed management practices on cowpea under rainfed conditions. It was found that single application of herbicide or cultural practices (1 HW + 1 IC) at 20-25 DAS not sufficient to control weed in cowpea and significantly yield loss 20-25% recorded, which is just half of around 45% yield loss in case no weed control measure followed. Application of (pendimethalin at 0.5 kg ha-1 as PRE + 1 HW + 1 IC at 25-30 DAS), (quizalofop- ethyl at 0.

  • Aerobic rice is a new way of cultivating rice that requires less water than lowland rice. Direct sown aerobic rice suffers more due to weed menace as the weeds and rice compete for growth factors together. Achieving higher rice grain yields under aerobic conditions requires better weed management practices. Hence, the aerobic rice should be focused primarily on efficient weed management to make aerobic rice cultivation more efficient in terms of returns on farmer investments and use of water resources.
