In this paper, we propose several designs of filter bank based decision feedback equalizers (DFE) for frequency selective multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. Transmission schemes over frequency selective channels are typically block based, and redundancy in form of guard intervals must be used to avoid inter-block interference (IBI).

This paper investigates the impacts of InterChannel Interference (ICI) effects on a shallow underwater acoustic (UWA) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system. Considering both the turbulence of the water surface and the roughness of the bottom, a stochastic geometry-based channel model utilized for a wideband transmission scenario has been exploited to derive a simulation model. Since the system bandwidth and the subcarrier spacing is very limited in the range of a few kHz, the channel capacity of a UWA system is severely suffered by the ICI effect.

The most thorough, up-to-date reference on channel equalization—from basic concepts to complex modeling techniques In today's instant-access society, a high premium is placed on information that can be stored and communicated effectively. As a result, storage densities and communications rates are being pushed to capacity, causing information symbols to interfere with one another.

Smart Antennas Smart antennas are an important application of SDR technology [381]. An in-depth treatment is beyond the scope of this chapter. The objective is to introduce the topic to identify the implications of smart antennas for softwareradio architecture. The smart antenna is a logical extension of antenna diversity described above [382].

Network Access and Synchronization Overview As we have described in Chapters 3 and 6, the SS/CDMA uses orthogonal CDMA in both uplink and downlink. The orthogonal CDMA can reject the interference between the user traffic channels and thus maximize the system capacity. However, the use of orthogonal CDMA in the uplink requires a network-wide synchronization of all satellite receptions (global synchronization). The accuracy of the synchronization at steadystate and the speed at which synchronization is acquired depends on the propagation environment, i.e.

CDMA network design 9.1 BASIC SYSTEM DESIGN PHILOSOPHY In Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems, the capacity increase is based on how much interference the desired signal can tolerate. Prior to despreading, the signal level of a desired signal is always below the interference level. All the users have to share the same radio channel. If one user takes more power than needed, then the others will suffer and the system capacity will be reduced. In analog and TDMA systems, the most important key element is the carrier to interference ratio (C/I ).
