Interventions to reduce violence

Body worn cameras (BWC) are mobile audio and video capture devices that can be secured to clothing allowing the wearer to record some of what they see and hear. This technology is being introduced in a range of healthcare settings as part of larger violence reduction strategies aimed at reducing incidents of aggression and violence on inpatient wards, however limited evidence exists to understand if this technology achieves such goals.

Nearly half of the women experience violence across their lifespan in all the provinces of Pakistan at an alarming rate. Despite knowing the prevalence, there has been meager progress in developing strategies to combat violence at individual, family, or community level.

Sexually exploited youth are disconnected from societal tethers and need support systems, which makes them some of the most vulnerable of youth. This heightened level of vulnerability increases their risk for violence, abuse, ongoing sexual exploitation and all its sequelae.

The third challenge is to develop health strategies that respond to the diverse and evolving needs of countries. This means designing cost-effective strategies which address those diseases and conditions which account for the greatest share of the burden of disease, now and in the future. In addition to the priorities reflected in the MDGs, reproductive health interventions will be essential in all countries. Efforts to reduce violence and injuries - as well as noncommunicable diseases such as those related to cardiovascular disease and tobacco use - are important almost everywhere.
