Intracytoplasmic inclusions

A blue rock pigeon which was found dead on the roadside at Chennai was subjected to a detailed necropsy. Numerous yellowish firm nodules were present on the unfeathered areas of skin while no diphtheritic lesions could be detected either in upper respiratory tract or digestive tract. Intracytoplasmic inclusions could be detected in the epidermal cells on histopathological examination. Intestinal contents revealed no endoparasites.

During various Capripox outbreaks in Jammu region, either sheep or goats were found to be affected separately by the disease showing the characteristic cutaneous lesions. Even when both sheep and goats were reared together, the disease was restricted to either host only. Clinical scab samples obtained from both sheep and goats were designated as putative Sheep poxvirus (SPPV) and Goatpoxvirus (GTPV). The isolates were processed and inoculated on the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of chicken embryonated eggs (CEE) to study the growth characteristics of the isolates.

Contagious pustular dermatitis (CPD) is an acute, highly contagious, zoonotic, debilitating and economically important viral non-systematic eruptive skin disease of small ruminants. In this report, occurrence of atypical caprine contagious pustular dermatitis associated with pneumonia in a goat flock is described. An outbreak of pox like disease was noticed in four out of 18 non-descript goats during June 2018, in Erode district of Tamil Nadu. Affected animals showed multiple, discrete, edematous nodular lesions and crust formation throughout its body surface with respiratory symptoms.

The phenomenon of the transformation of proteins into amyloid-fibrils is of interest, firstly, because it is closely connected to the so-called conformational diseases, many of which are hitherto incurable, and secondly, because it remains to be explained in physical terms (energetically and structurally). The process leads to fibrous aggregates in the form of extracellular amyloid plaques, neuro-fibrillary tangles and other intracytoplasmic or intranuclear inclusions.
