In cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, the upper airways display the same ion channel defect as evident in the lungs, resulting in chronic inflammation and infection. Recognition of the sinonasal area as a site of first and persistent infection with pathogens, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, reinforces the “one-airway” hypothesis.

The in vivo biodistribution and pharmacokinetics of 1329, a novel spectinamide antibiotic with anti-tubercular activity, were studied during intravenous administration of an tritium-labeled compound for nine consecutive, 12-hourly doses to rats. Serial blood samples were collected after the first and the eighth dose, and major organs and tissues were collected 1 h after the ninth dose. Urinary and fecal excretion was monitored throughout the dosing period. Radioactivity in the collected samples was assessed by scintillation counting. During the course of treatment, 86.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is an uncommon and life-threatening disorder that may rarely complicate the clinical course of Orientia tsutsugamushi disease (scrub typhus). Here, we describe the clinical features, laboratory parameters, management, and outcome of 16 children with scrub typhus-associated HLH. All patients satisfied the HLH-2004 diagnostic criteria. All patients had fever of unknown origin and multisystem damage. Raised hepatic transaminases and abnormalities in routine blood test were observed in all children. Imaging tests showed abnormalities in 10 cases.

The majority of Cambodia children do not receive appropriate first line treatment for diarrhea. Of children under five who had diarrhea in the two weeks preceding the DHS survey, just 21% were given ORS, 36% received recommended fluids (ORS and/ or homemade rehydration fluids) and just over half received increased fluids of any kind. Many children received inappropriate treatments: 63.1% were treated with pills or syrups (CDHS, 2005). Of those who went to private sector providers, 42% were given antibiotics and 25% were given an injection.
