Ebook "Amorphous drugs: Benefits and challenges" explains theoretical and technological aspects of amorphous drug formulations. It is intended for all those wishing to increase their knowledge in the field of amorphous pharmaceuticals. Conversion of crystalline material into the amorphous state, as described in this book, is a way to overcome limited water solubility of drug formulations, in this way enhancing the chemical activity and bioavailability inside the body.

The age-stage, two-sex life table method was used for data analysis. The results indicated that EPF treatments affected the population growth rate of the aphids by causing prolongation of the development time, decrease in survival rate, shortening of adult longevity, and decrease in reproduction. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) and the finite rate of increase (λ) reflecting combined effects of all life history parameters were the highest in the control group and the lowest in M.

Mutation rates vary across the genome. Many trans factors that influence mutation rates have been identified, as have specific sequence motifs at the 1–7-bp scale, but cis elements remain poorly characterized. The lack of understanding regarding why different sequences have different mutation rates hampers our ability to identify positive selection in evolution and to identify driver mutations in tumorigenesis.

The results showed that pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition periods of A. arizonensis were calculated as 1.5, 26, and 3.1 days, respectively. In addition, total mean longevity was determined as 31 days for female and 18 days for male individuals. Moreover, total mean fecundity and daily mean fecundity were also found as 83 mealybugs/female, and 4.1 mealybugs/female/day, respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase (r), net reproduction rate (R0), finite rate of increase (λ), gross reproductive rate (GRR), and mean generation time (T) were found 0.135, 41.25, 1.144, 60.

The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae), is cosmopolitan in its geographical distribution, occurring in all major crucifer growing regions of world. The larva skeletonize the leaves and ultimately affecting the plant growth and rendering it unfit for further use.

Stochastic modeling and simulation provide powerful predictive methods for the intrinsic understanding of fundamental mechanisms in complex biochemical networks. Typically, such mathematical models involve networks of coupled jump stochastic processes with a large number of parameters that need to be suitably calibrated against experimental data.

Lecture 11: Money and Inflation - II. After studying this chapter you will be able to understand: the stock of assets used for transactions; serves as a medium of exchange, store of value, and unit of account; Commodity money has intrinsic value, fiat money does not; Central bank controls money supply; seigniorage; fischer effect; money demand and the nominal interest rate; inflation.

Copy number variations (CNVs) are the main genetic structural variations in cancer genome. Detecting CNVs in genetic exome region is efficient and cost-effective in identifying cancer associated genes. Many tools had been developed accordingly and yet these tools lack of reliability because of high false negative rate, which is intrinsically caused by genome exonic bias.

Malignant melanoma is an aggressive type of skin cancer, and despite recent advances in treatment, the survival rate of the metastatic form remains low. Nifuroxazide analogues are drugs based on the substitution of the nitrofuran group by benzofuroxan, in view of the pharmacophore similarity of the nitro group, improving bioavailability, with higher intrinsic activity and less toxicity.

Enterococci gained great significance as a nosocomial pathogen in the recent past mainly due to its intrinsic to many antimicrobials including low level aminoglycoside resistance. Detection of the acquired high level aminoglycoside resistance (HLAR) had become essential as clinical failures reported especially with endocarditis. Total of 60 enterococcal isolates were tested (30 from clinical cases as cases and 30 from stool samples as controls) for high level aminoglycoside resistance for gentamicin and streptomycin by three methods -agar dilution, E-test and disc diffusion method.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the commonly isolated gram negative bacillus from various clinical samples. It is a commensal in healthy individuals but can be opportunistic pathogen especially in hospitalised patients. It is intrinsically resistant to many antibiotics. Hence the present study was undertaken to study the prevalence and antibiotic sensitivity pattern in our hospital. Various clinical samples like pus, sputum, urine, vaginal swab, pleural fluid, ear swabs and tracheal aspirate received in the microbiology laboratory were included in the study.

Tumors can be intrinsically drugresistant or develop resistance to chemotherapy. Multidrug resistance can develop by diverse mechanisms including decreased rate of drug uptake, increased drug efflux, alterations in drug metabolism, mutation of drug targets, activation of DNA repair mechanisms and evasion of apoptosis.

Monochamus galloprovincialis (Olivier) is the vector of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Steiner and Buhrer) Nickle, in Europe and Asia. Reproduction is probably the most important event in the life history of insects and may be affected by a number of factors, such as seasonal changes in larval or adult nutrition.

New electromechanical transducers with high energy output, high strains, high mechanical compliance, lightweight, damage-tolerance and low cost can enable needed advances in a variety of applications, such as robotics, automation and biomedical devices. The perceived need for improved transducer performance, which has progressively emerged in the last few decades, has drawn considerable efforts for the development of devices relying on materials with intrinsic transduction properties.

One possibility is that states in which saving rates are highest introduced mandatory education earlier than others did. The main defence is that a dummy in the individual savings regression for whether the state ever imposed compulsory education is not significant. The interpretation of this observation is that states that imposed mandatory education do not have different intrinsic saving rates relative to the others. This is only partially convincing in countering the argument that what might matter is not whether a mandate was imposed but when it was.

Our Bayesian approach estimates a time-varying exposure from banks’ gains and losses on their interest-rate derivative positions. This approach builds on early work by Gorton and Rosen (1995) who did not have data on market values, because few banks reported them before the adoption of fair value accounting in the mid 1990s. Instead, Gorton and Rosen use data on "replacement costs" from the Call Reports, which refers to the value of derivatives that are assets to the bank (not netting out the liabilities).

In the next section we outline some theoretical and empirical results about the relationships between monetary policy, the ináation target of monetary authorities, the level of this target perceived by the public and the long term interest rates dynamics. In section 3, we present the works of Kozicki and Tinsley (1998, 2001a, 2001b) and we establish the interest of this model in our framework.

In Canada, a significant portion of an insurer’s capital requirement (especially for a life insurer) arises from its exposure to credit risk. This component of the overall insurer capital requirement is determined using asset default factors. For rated short term securities, bonds, loans and private placements, these factors are based on the rating agency grade.
