  • Ebook "Full-3D seismic waveform inversion: Theory, software and practice" introduces a methodology for solving the seismic inverse problem using purely numerical solutions built on 3D wave equations and which is free of the approximations or simplifications that are common in classical seismic inversion methodologies and therefore applicable to arbitrary 3D geological media and seismic source models. Source codes provided allow readers to experiment with the calculations demonstrated and also explore their own applications.

  • Advances in 3D graphics make it possible to generate highly realistic 3D models which usually contain a huge number of polygons. This large number of polygons gives rise to many challenges with respect to real-time rendering performance, storage requirements, and the transmission of graphics dataset over the network. In this paper, a networked rendering paradigm based on our pipeline-splitting method is introduced to facilitate the remote rendering system.

  • The concept of in situ 3D bio-printing was previously reported, while its realization has still encountered with several difficulties. The present study aimed to report robotic-assisted in situ 3D bio-printing technology for cartilage regeneration, and explore its potential in clinical application. A six-degree-offreedom (6-DOF) robot was introduced in this study, and a fast tool center point (TCP) calibration method was developed to improve printing accuracy. The bio-ink consisted of hyaluronic acid methacrylate and acrylate-terminated 4-armed polyethylene glycol was employed as well.

  • Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong has introduced innovative blended problem-based learning (PBL) with the aid of 3D electronic models (e-models) to Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) curriculum. Statistical results of pre- and post-semester questionnaire surveys illustrated compatibility of e-models in PBL settings. The students’ importance ratings of two objectives “Complete assigned tasks on time” and “Active listener”, and twenty-two facilitator evaluation items including critical thinking and group problemsolving skills had increased significantly.

  • This article introduces a procedure for modelling of large structures using a structural approach usually referred to as a bond-valence method. This empirical method minimalizes the computation costs and facilitates the contruction of complex 3D images of thermally dependent electron density even for very large periodic structures. This method also provides a convenient way to visualize the carrier density, defect locations, and valence dynamics under thermal fluctuation.

  • In this paper a 3D model (FSUM) on tidal flows with sediment transport and bed morphology process taking into account the temperature-salinity exchange in estuaries and coastal zones is introduced in more detail. The implicit finite difference method based on semi-Lagrange splitting is used. The software is coded with FORTRAN 90/95.
