  • This study evaluates the relationship between foreign direct investment, current account, and economic growth in Vietnam. Using the VECM method, the research results have shown that FDI and current accounts positively affect Vietnam’s economic growth in both the short and long term. The novelty of this paper is that the authors have done the robustness test through the Bayesian stability test. Based on research results, we propose policy implications to minimize the negative effects of FDI inflows and make the most of this capital source for Vietnam's sustainable economic development.

  • This paper proposes a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model aiming to optimize the topology of transmission networks considering power loss. The proposed MILP model is converted from the MINLP model using the piecewise linearization technique and precisely linearizing the product of the binary and continuous variables. The objective function of the TNEP problem in this study is to minimize the total cost of the power system, including the investment cost for new transmission lines, maintenance cost, cost related to energy losses loss, and production cost of generators.

  • For the purpose of ensuring sustainable development, one of the important factors is to increase labor productivity and minimize the number of workers directly working in the mine. In the context of increasing requirements for underground coal mining, the number of workers tends to decline due to shifting to other types of economy. Therefore, the mechanization investment in coal mining is the inevitable destination, which guarantees the long - term strategic development of the coal mining industry.

  • The pace of irrigation development in independent India has been rapid and the contribution of minor irrigation system is around 41.85M ha. Unfortunately command area planning for the major irrigation projects has received sufficient attention and various methodology have been developed for optimal water use planning but no such effort has been made for the minor irrigation systems.

  • The selection of optimal portfolios is the central problem of financial investment decisions. Mathematically speaking, portfolio selection refers to the formulation of an objective function that determines the weights of the portfolio invested in each asset as to maximize return and minimize risk. This paper applies the method of genetic algorithm (GA) to obtain an optimal portfolio selection. However, the GA parameters are of great importance in the procedure of convergence of this algorithm towards the optimal solution such as crossover.

  • In this paper we have proposed an approach for minimization of a shares portfolio invested in a market which the fluctuations follow a normal distribution based in amathematical explicit formulae for calculating Value at Risk (VaR) for portfolios of linear financial assets invested using the Black-Scholes stochastic process and assuming that the portfolio structure remains constant over the considered time horizon. We minimize this Value at Risk using neural networks and genetic algorithms.

  • An experiment was conducted over two years from 2014 to 2016 to find out the suitable management tactics against Aphelenchoides besseyi Christie in tuberose. The experiment was planned in ‘Strip Factorial Design’. Three nematode management modules, two susceptible crop cultivars and two spacings were used in the experiment. Management modules were adopted in order to manage the population of A. besseyi in tuberose to minimize the infestation for sustainable production of tuberose floral spikes.

  • This book contains my simple and elegant stock market trading system. It does not require a lot of time, effort, and special knowledge, and it can give you a great return without undue risk. I love trading with my system, and am proud of it. Trading my system allows me to express my passion for simplicity, elegance, minimalism, Zen, and present-moment awareness. Practicing it feels like a form of meditation. This is not a “black box” system. I do not want you to just take my rules and follow them blindly. I want you to understand my system, test it, modify it, and make it your own.

  • With respect to children over two, the authors emphasize the importance of content in mediat- ing the effect of television on cognitive skills and academic achievement. Early exposure to age- appropriate programs designed around an educational curriculum is associated with cognitive and academic enhancement, whereas exposure to pure entertainment, and violent content in particular, is associated with poorer cognitive development and lower academic achievement.

  • If we know the minimal winning coalitions, then we know everything that we need to know about the voting problem. The winning coalitions are all those sets that contain a minimal winning coalition, and the losing coalitions are the complements of the winning coalitions. All other sets are blocking coalitions. In Example 2.7 the minimal winning coalitions are the sets contain- ing four members. In Example 2.8 the minimal winning coalitions are the three-member coalitions that contain the tie-breaking member and the four-member coalitions that do not contain the tie-breaking mem- ber.

  • In this paper, given a text document, we first iden- tify events and their associated arguments. We then identify causality or relatedness relations between event pairs. To do this, we develop a minimally su- pervised approach using focused distributional sim- ilarity methods, such as co-occurrence counts of events collected automatically from an unannotated corpus, to measure and predict existence of causal- ity relations between event pairs.

  • While the financial meltdown of the last decade and its consequences are still being felt, many are already talking of another one originating in the Euro zone. The global economic slowdown was a natural consequence of the events of 2007-8 which has led to a gloomy investment climate. For obvious reasons, most investors appear to have adopted a more cautious approach. The situation has not been very different in India, with the potential addition of other issues to contend with.

  • Levine explains what the financial system does and how it affects, and is affected by, economic growth. Theory suggests that financial instruments, markets, and institutions arise to mitigate the effects of information and transaction costs. A growing literature shows that differences in how well financial systems reduce information and transaction costs influence savings rates, investment decisions, technological innovation, and long-run growth rates. A less developed theoretical literature shows how changes in economic activity can influence financial systems.

  • However, superior performance in the past does not necessarily mean that it will continue into the future. This is because superior performance may be due to either a manager’s skill or good luck. Therefore, it is interesting to understand the characteristics of funds and to know what caused the performance; this helps investors to understand how to select their fund manager. This literature survey chapter is organised as follows. Section 2.2 surveys the writings related to performance measures and empirical evidence to do with them in the developed markets. Section 2.
