The adsorption of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution onto alginic acid has been investigated based on the establishment of a relationship among pH, conductivity and the concentration of metal ion. It was shown that the adsorption of this metal ion onto alginic acid followed the pseudo-second-order reaction and was conducted by ion exchange mechanism.

The ion-exchange and complex forming equilibria were quantitatively described and demonstrated in order to understand major factors in the control of selectivity in the analytical separation of carboxylic acids and inorganic anions in cryptand based ion chromatography. A complex retention model has been developed for the separation on a non-conventional IC column.

Elucidation of protein transport mechanism in ion exchanges is essential to model separation performance. In this work we simulate intraparticle adsorption profiles during batch adsorption assuming typical process conditions for pore, solid and parallel diffusion. Artificial confocal laser scanning microscopy images are created to identify apparent differences between the different transport mechanisms.

This study focuses on modifying waste plastic by sulfuric acid to bind the sulfonated function group on the structure of the polystyrene chain at room temperature. The sulfonated product was used for removing heavy metal ion in water with the mechanism of the ion exchange process. The prepared ion exchange material was characterized by FTIR and SEM to ensure that the sulfonation process has happened.

In this study, we synthesized silica sol by ion exchange from sodium silicate. Silica sol solution is used for coating the surface of cotton fabrics [21, 22]. Effect of nanosilica content (through number of coating times) on fire resistance (UL-94, LOI) and mechanical properties of the materials are investigated and evaluated.

In a previous study, generally lower drug release rates from RL:L55 blend coated pellets in neutral/basic release media than in acidic release media were reported. The aim of this study was to obtain information on the drug release mechanism of solid dosage forms coated with blends of Eudragit® RL (RL) and Eudragit® L-55 (L55). Swelling experiments with free films were analyzed spectroscopically and gravimetrically to identify the physicochemical cause for this release behavior. With Raman spectroscopy, the swelling of copolymer films could be monitored.

An organic–inorganic nano-composite poly-o-anisidine Sn(IV) tungstate was chemically synthesized by sol–gel mixing of the incorporation of organic polymer o-anisidine into the matrices of inorganic ppt of Sn(IV) tungstate in different mixing volume ratios. This composite material has been characterized using various analytical techniques like XRD (X-ray diffraction), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared), SEM (Scanning electron microscopy), TEM (Transmission electron microscopy) and simultaneous TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) studies.

Two isoforms, L1and L2,ofl-amino acid oxidase have been isolated from Russell’s viper venom by Sephadex G-100 gel filtration followed by CM-Sephadex C-50 ion exchange chromatography. The enzymes, with different isoelectric points, are monomers of 60–63 kDa as observed from size exclu-sion HPLC and SDS⁄PAGE.
