  • Trichoderma species, a class of plant beneficial fungi, may provide opportunistic symbionts to induce plant tolerance to abiotic stresses. Here, we determined the possible mechanisms responsible for the indole acetic acid (IAA) and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate-deaminase (ACC-deaminase) producing strain of Trichoderma longibrachiatum T6 (TL-6) in promoting wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) growth and enhancing plant tolerance to NaCl stress.

  • The synthesis and characterization of chitosan (CS) nanoparticles used as drug carrier was reported. The formation of nanoparticles, taking place in an aqueous phase without using auxiliary toxic substances via the ionic interaction between NH3 + protonated group of CS and phosphate group of sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) was monitored in situ by combined UV-vis and pH measurements. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by TGA/DTA, XRD and TEM. The particle size, estimated by TEM, was found around 50 - 70 nm, with a quite uniform size distribution.

  • Bioremediation presents a potentially low cost and environmentally agreeable alternative to current physico-chemical remediation strategies. However, heavy metals such as mercury cannot be converted into non-toxic forms by naturally occurring bacteria. Annual global emissions estimates for mercury released into the environment are in the thousands of tons per year [1,2] while the remediation cost is in the thousands of dollars per pound. Finding new bioremediation technologies is an urgent need.

  • Introduction: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a colorless gas with the smell of putrid eggs; it can exist in both nonionic and ionic forms in aqueous solution. The ratio of the nonionic form to the total ionized one is influenced by concentration of hydrogen ion in the solution. Under acidic conditions, H2S does not ionized and evaporated from water; under alkaline conditions it is easily ionized and retained in the solution.
