Crustaceans express several classes of receptor genes in their antennules, which house olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) and non-olfactory chemosensory neurons. Transcriptomics studies reveal that candidate chemoreceptor proteins include variant Ionotropic Receptors (IRs) including both co-receptor IRs and tuning IRs, Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channels, Gustatory Receptors, epithelial sodium channels, and class A G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).

The X-ray structure of the ionotropic GluR2 ligand-binding core (GluR2-S1S2J) in complex with the bicyclical AMPA analogue (S)-2-amino-3-(3-hyd-roxy-7,8-dihydro-6H-cyclohepta[d]-4-isoxazolyl)propionic acid [(S)-4-AHCP] has been determined, as well as the binding pharmacology of this construct and of the full-length GluR2 receptor. (S)-4-AHCP binds with a glutamate-like binding mode and the ligand adopts two different conformations.

Extracellular ATP triggers catecholamine secretion from PC12 cells by activating ionotropic purine receptors. Repeated stimulation by ATP leads to habituation of the secretory response. In this paper, we use amperometric detection to monitor the habituation of PC12 cells to mul-tiple stimulations of ATP or its agonist. Cells habituate to 30lMATP slower than they do to 300 or 600lMATP.
