  • Gram-negative bacterium Neisseria meningitidis, responsible for human infectious disease meningitis, acquires the iron (Fe3+) ion needed for its survival from human transferrin protein (hTf). For this transport, transferrin binding proteins TbpA and TbpB are facilitated by the bacterium. The transfer cannot occur without TbpA, while the absence of TbpB only slows down the transfer. Thus, understanding the TbpA-hTf binding at the atomic level is crucial for the fight against bacterial meningitis infections.

  • GTN stimulation increased both CRLR/ CGRPR1 expression, and immunostaining was apparent in microglia and meningeal cells. This study showed for the first time that GTN modulates intracellular iron trafficking regulated by storage and transport proteins expressed in meningeal cells and glia. CRLR/ CGRPR1 expression might be related to altered iron homeostasis and they both may stimulate nociceptive pathways activated in migraine.

  • Aedes aegypti is the principle vector of many arboviruses, including dengue virus and Zika virus, which are transmitted when an infected female mosquito takes a blood meal in order to initiate vitellogenesis. During blood digestion, ~ 10 mM heme-iron is ingested into the midgut lumen.

  • The low yield of pulses is mainly attributed to their cultivation on poor soils with inadequate and imbalanced nutrient application without the application of organic manures and micronutrients like boron, zinc and iron. Since the poor soils are low in organic matter content, use of organic manures plays a vital role in improving soil physical condition, provides vital plant nutrients and maintains long term productivity of the soil. Boron helps in carbohydrate transport. It is necessary for the germination of pollen, formation of flowers and fruits and for the absorption of cations.

  • Iron is one of the essential mineral for all organisms and its deficiency leads to many serious problems in human being worldwide. Plants have evolved with specific ZIP transporters to uptake and transport the iron from the soil. IRT2 is one of the ZIPs family members, which has a role in uptake of Fe2+ from the soil. Indian barnyard millet (E. frumentacea L.) is one of the rich sources of iron among millets. IRT2 gene of Indian barnyard millet is up regulated under iron deficient condition and hence we isolated EfIRT2 gene.

  • Ba Lat estuary is the large mouth of the Red river; every year, the Ba Lat estuary receives million cubic meters of water before the water is dissolved in the sea. Therefore, polluted materials in the water from the continent are also transported to the sea through the estuary. However, the volume of the water pouring into the sea varies with the season. In this paper, the water quality at Ba Lat estuary (Red river) was surveyed in July 2017 representing the Southwest wind season (rainy season) and in October 2017 representing the Northeast wind season (dry season).

  • Iron is an essential micro-mineral in human nutrition. It is a mineral found in every cell of the body and required to make part of blood cell. It participates as a catalyst in several metabolic reactions. As a component of haemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochrome and other proteins, iron plays an important role in the transport, storage and utilization of oxygen and cellular proliferation. In this study, an attempt was made to prepare dahi by using 1% starter culture, fortified with iron by using ferrous lactate @ 40 mg/kg milk.

  • Hepcidin (H25) is a hormone peptide synthesized by the liver that binds to ferroportin and blocks iron export. In this study, H25 was inhibited by administration of single and multiple doses of an anti-H25 monoclonal antibody Ab 12B9m in cynomolgus monkeys. The objective of this analysis was to develop a pharmacodynamic model describing the role of H25 in regulating iron homeostasis and the impact of hepcidin inhibition by Ab 12B9m. Total serum H25 and Ab 12B9m were determined in each animal. Corresponding measurements of serum iron and hemoglobin (Hb) were obtained.

  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level in eukaryotes. In rice, MIR7695 expression is regulated by infection with the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae with subsequent down-regulation of an alternatively spliced transcript of natural resistanceassociated macrophage protein 6 (OsNramp6). NRAMP6 functions as an iron transporter in rice.

  • Iron has an important role in various metabolic processes and as a central structure of hemoglobin (Hb) for the process of transporting oxygen. Malnutrition from the beginning of pregnancy until the end of pregnancy will cause problems with labor, premature birth, low birth weight in infants to maternal death. The importance of examining serum Ferritin levels as early detection of iron deficiency anemia is especially carried out before pregnancy or early pregnancy (trimester I), given the high incidence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women and its impacts.
