Isolated bacterial species in bioremediation

In the present investigation, bacterial species such as E. coli, S. aureus and S. bongori were isolated from soil by using serial dilution. Bioremediation results showed the S. aureus was highly efficient on Diazinon removal by 62%, 63.2% and 68.6%, Pirimicarb removal was 44%, 52.4% and 53.8%, and Atrazine removal was 61%, 65.6% and 70.6%. and the efficiency of E. coli removal on Diazinon was 59%, 60.8% and 63.8%; on Pirimicarb was 44%, 52.4% and 53.8%; and for Atrazine 57%, 60.8% and 64.4%. S. bongori efficiency on Diazinon was 49%, 51.2% and 55.8%; on Pirimicarb removal was 61%, 63.

Modern industrialization causes major environmental pollution and degradation. The Environmental changes results the genomic instability in human cells, bacterial cells and yeast cells. Due to high rate of genetic instability, mutation rate has become high and it induces the potential to adaptevolution for living cells. There are several physical and chemical mutagenic agents are available which can induce mutation in genetic materials.

Petroleum-based products are the major source of energy for industry and daily life. Leaks and accidental spills occur regularly during the exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage of petroleum and petroleum products. Crude oil-impacted tropical soil and natural water samples (0 - 30cm depth) were obtained from the Niger Delta, Nigeria. A total of twenty seven bacterial species of relevance in bioremediation were isolated and characterized using standard and conventional methods. The predominant species belong to the genera Pseudomonas and Proteus.

Petrochemical is the fastest growing industry, also manufacturing variety of chemicals. However the waste generated during the manufacturing is a major environmental concern due to its persistence in soil and water bodies. An alternative to chemical treatment is bioremediation which aims to enhance the normal processes of microbial degradation and clear the pollutant from the environment.
