Relative age efect is defined as a phenomenon where children born early generally perform better than children born later in the same cohort. Physical activity is an important factor that might be influenced by the relative age efect. Socioeconomic factors (e.g., parent’s income, education level) are also associated with the adolescent’s physical activity.

: A progressive deformity associated with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) negatively affects a patient’s health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Although the Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) is the standard measurement tool for assessing HRQOL in patients with AIS, it is partially suboptimal for evaluating HRQOL in Japanese patients with AIS because of cultural differences.

The decrease in the frequency of family meals among Asian youth is often lamented. In Japan, adolescents who eat breakfast alone might have an unhealthy diet, which increases the risk of overweight or obese. However, there are few studies on the relationship between eating dinner alone and overweight in Japanese adolescents.

In January 2000, the Japanese Government's Environment Agency announced an amendment to Japan's Law for the Conservation of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, strengthening restrictions on domestic trade in tiger parts and derivatives. Japan is a significant consumer of Asian medicines and products, and up until this law was passed, products had been on open sale and unregulated. This law closes that possibility. In addition, all species threatened by the medic- inals trade are protected by national legislation in their range States.
