Many patients who undergo anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructive surgery develop posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). ACL reconstructive surgery may not fully restore pre-injury joint biomechanics, thereby resulting in further joint damage and contributing to the development of PTOA.
