  • A study was conducted on GI tagged Tezpur litchi (Litchi chinesis Sonn.) varieties at litchi garden, Porua, Tezpur and on a litchi variety at Experimental Farm, Department of Horticulture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat during 2016-2018 to have a morphological studies of Tezpur litchi. A total of seven varieties i.e., Bombay, Shahi, Piyaji, China, Bilati and Elaichi from Tezpur and Shahi from Jorhat district with four replications were laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD).

  • The present study was conducted among the eri rearers of Kachari tribe in the Jorhat district of Assam with a sample size of 120 respondents. Participation of women was found to be higher in eri culture activities. The study revealed that participation of women in nursery preparation (23.75%) and main field preparation (14.76%) was low against men. But, in rearing of eri silkworm and marketing (81.67%) and in post cocoon technology (93.33%) the participation of women was high against men.

  • A total 200 soil samples were collected from tea plantation areas of district, Jorhat, Assam and were assessed for entomopathogenic nematodes using the Galleria baiting technique. Out of 200 soil samples, EPN was found in 1 soil sample collected from Tea plantation, Chetiagaon, Jorhat and designated as EPN-H-1. Morphological and morphometrical characters were used for the identification of nematode isolate. The measurements were expressed in % ratios and Means ± SD ranges.

  • Native isolates of EPNs, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and Oscheius chongmingensis were isolated from the tea plantation crop of Jorhat district of Assam and were tested against tea mosquito bug Helopeltis theivora andbunch caterpillar, Andraca bipunctata through mortality test under laboratory condition. For that 5, 10, 50, 100,150, 200 and 250 infective juveniles of each isolate were inoculated per insect. The insect mortality was observed after 24, 48, 72 and 96h exposure.

  • Molecular detection of Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) was carried out using nucleic acid based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method with six different primer pairs for the six components of BBTV (DNA1 to DNA6) genome. Samples were collected from six banana cultivars exhibiting the characteristic symptoms Banana bunchy top disease from eight districts of Assam viz., Jorhat, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural and Goalpara.

  • Study on the morphological variations among the populations of Meloidogyne incognita from nine districts of Assam exhibited variations only in the tail shape, while other morphological characters showed similarities among the populations.Tail shape of second stage juveniles (J2) of M.incognita collected from Golaghat, Kokrajhar, Nagaon and Sibsagar district was similar in shape. Likewise, J2 tail shape of Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Lakhimpur population showed similarity but, Dhubri and Kamrup population showed variation from other populations.

  • Rice crop harbours diverse beneficial plant growth promoting diazotrophs which mostly plays a significant role in supplementing not only N fertilizer but also gives indirect benefit to the crops by improving their productivity and immunity. Considering all the benefits from PGP diazotrophs, rice rhizospheric soil samples were collected randomly from 20 different locations of Jorhat district, Assam. Altogether, 53 rhizobacterial cultures were isolated in non-selective TSA media.

  • The present study was conducted in two districts of Upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone of Assam namely Jorhat and Majuli district in order to assess the socio-economic profile of flood affected farmers, their employment status and perception on flood impacts. A total of 160 farmers were selected from eight villages of two districts by following proportionate cum random sampling techniques. The findings reveal that majority of the respondents were in between 41-59 years of age with education level upto class VII standard and having 4-6 members in their family with average annual income Rs.7,339.

  • Rice is a major crop of Assam. Using rice as a substrate, different communities in the state produces peculiar fermented and non-fermented products like rice beer, sweets and snacks etc. Production of rice beer involves two steps; starter culture preparation and brewing. The starter culture is made of rice and herbal combinations and believed to act as inoculants for brewing.   • Papaya ring spot virus (PRSV) is the most destructive disease of Papaya, responsible for yield reduction of Papaya all over the world. PRSV exhibited different types of symptoms on Papaya plant in the field like ringspot , vein clearing, vein banding, chlorosis of younger leaves, filiformy, shoestring, mosaic, mottling, stunted growth etc. Molecular diagnosis of PRSV was done with the help of gene specific primers through PCR. Gel electrophoresis results show a 300bp clear band which confirms the presence of PRSV in the plants. Sequencing was done and phylogenetic tree was made.

  • Survey was conducted during 2014-15 for the isolation of mycoflora from the egg masses of Meloidogyne incognita infecting crops like tomato, brinjal, pea and ameranthus from five different locations viz., Charigaon, Alengmora, Danichopari, Namdeori and Barbheta of Jorhat and Golaghat district of Assam. The egg masses were collected and surface sterilized in 0.4 per cent sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for two minutes. Further these egg masses were washed thoroughly with sterile distilled water until the traces of NaOCl was removed and placed in potato dextrose agar plate.
