India is home to a great variety of ethno-medicinally important plant species and is ranked sixth among 12 mega-diversity countries of the world (Joshi et al., 2001). Medicinal plants as a group comprises approximately 8000 species and account for around 80% of all higher flowering plant species of India (Samant et al., 2002). The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) comprises of five biogeographic provinces i.e. Trans, North West, West, Central and East Himalaya and covers approximately an area of 591 thousand km2 (Rodgers and Panwar, 1998).

The present investigation was conducted at vegetable seed production unit, Division of vegetable Science, Shuhama campus, SKUAST-Kashmir during 2014-15 on leafy vegetables viz., knol kohl and kale crops. The pollinator fauna of both the vegetables were collected and studied for their foraging ecology and behaviour during the study period. There are various threats to pollinator diversity in modern agriculture. Our focus was to record the insect diversity under present scenario.

Rhizosphere soil samples from Brinjal crop were collected from the 12 different locations in north Kashmir districts with the objective to isolate the zinc solubilizing bacteria, their screening and characterization. Zinc carbonate was used as insoluble zinc source. Out of 80 Zn solubilizers, 10 most outstanding isolates were maintained for further screening for mineral solubilization (Zn and K). Among these Znsb(Kup)M2 which was identified as Bacillus cereus by molecular techniques, showed maximum solubilization index (S.I) and solubilization efficiency (S.E) with 2.

The aim of the present investigation was to prepare an inventory of ectomycorrhiza prevailing in Zabarvan forest range of Western Himalayas of Kashmir and assess their diversity index and species richness. Three forest sites viz., Dachigam, Shalimar and Shankaracharia hills were surveyed periodically for three consecutive years (2011-2013) for ectomycorrhiza. A total number of 67 species in 23 genera belonging to 21 families in 07 orders were recorded. The study revealed that mycorrhizal fungal species richness was more in autumn season (45 species) and less in summer (11 species).

Twenty five biodegradable waste samples were collected from different waste dumping sites of district Baramulla from five locations viz., Wadura, Sopore, Baramulla town, Bomai and Pattan. The cellulolytic bacteria were isolated on Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose Agar Medium (CMC) by following serial dilution pour plate method. The cellulolytic bacterial isolates were screened qualitatively as well as quantitatively at three different temperatures (10, 15 & 20oC) and three different pHs (5, 7 and 9).
