Development of QPM (Quality Protein Maize) with high lysine and tryptophan is foremost important task in enhancing nutritional quality in maize through breeding programme. Marker assisted selection is the most feasible way of developing QPM hybrids in short time. The present investigation deals with conversion of elite normal maize inbred lines BML6 and BML7 (parental lines of DHM117 hybrid) into QPM lines using marker assisted selection. The nutritional quality of maize is enhanced by introgression of the opaque2 (o2) gene along with numerous modifiers for kernel hardness.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2015 at Agronomy Farm, S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner, Jaipur (Rajasthan) with groundnut variety RG-382 (Durga) on loamy sand alkaline soil under irrigated condition. The treatments consisted 20 combination of 5 organic manures viz. control, FYM @ 10 t/ha, poultry manure @ 5 t/ha, vermicompost @ 4 t/ha and RDF) and four levels of molybdenum viz. control, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 kg Mo/ha through sodium molybdate which were tested in factorial RBD replicated thrice.

The experiment was carried out with a RIL (F7) population (100 lines out of 189 lines available) raised by crossing between Gobindabhog and Satabdi. They were grown in the Regional Research Sub- Station, Sekhampur, and Nadia. Out of eleven quality parameters, kernel breadth, ratio of length and breadth after cooking, elongation ratio, aroma and colour of kernel possess significant difference between two parents. Similar set of alleles for 100 SW is present in both parents as evidenced from the fact that 85% of RILs was within the narrow range of two parental values.

The present study evaluated the use of nonconventional carbon source, de-oiled oil palm kernel meal (Elaeis guineensis), which is a low-cost palm oil industry waste for biofloc production. The effects of de-oiled oil palm kernel meal on water quality, growth and digestive enzyme activity of L. vannamei were studied to assess the viability of this carbon source in biofloc systems.

The study result revealed that 5 minutes of roasting resulted with the moisture loss of 12% yield 95 % creamy white colour kernels with the viscosity of 13.8 cp 12 % (2.54 g of TSP/20 g TKP) and maximum polysaccharide yield . Although the remaining roasting treatments with more time of roasting gave good decortication efficiency, but resulted with brownish kernel colour and low Tamarind Kernel Powder outturn. The remaining treatments recorded low gum outturn and viscosity when compared to 5 minutes roasting.

Thirty basmati rice genotypes were evaluated in RBD with three replications with an objective of assessing the genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance for twenty-two yield and quality characters. The results of ANOVA revealed that the mean sum of squares among the genotypes for all the characters were highly significant indicating the presence of ample amount of variability which can be exploited for selection of characters for crop improvement programme.

The exploitation of yield potential through inter sub specific (inter-racial) hybridization become a challenging task for rice breeders. Grain yield improvement is considered to be prime objective of any breeding programme, quality traits are yet another important consideration of rice breeding in India. Association of yield and yield components and among grain quality traits thus assumes a unique prominence as the basis for selecting desirable high yielding genotypes with good grain quality characters.

Mango belong to the genus Mangifera member of Anacardiaceae family, is one of the most popular fruit in the word. Mango processing industries discarded large amounts of mango peel and mango kernel as waste. In this research, it was decided to use of ripe mango peel powder (MPP) at different proportion in mango nectar and study the sensory quality of MPP blended mango nectar. The sensory score for overall acceptability of MPP blended mango nectar of treatment T0, T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 8.00, 8.07, 8.39, 8.12 and 7.86, respectively.

An investigation was carried out to study the effects of various doses (0.2 to 0.6%) of EMS on physico-quality traits of groundnut (Arachis hypogea L) in M4 families of the groundnut variety TPG 41. Among the different concentrations of EMS treated TPG 41 population, 0.2 % EMS was found to be effective in inducing variability for pod yield per plant, hundred kernel weight, shelling out turn and kernel length in M4 families.

Nutritional quality of maize kernel artificially infested by Sitophilus oryzae and exposed to four different CO2 concentrations viz., 20, 40, 60 and 80 per cent in modified atmosphere was studied upto six months of storage. The results revealed that exposure of kernels to 80 per cent CO2 concentration could able to maintain good per cent of carbohydrates (72.93 per cent), total proteins (8.67 per cent), crude fat (5.07 per cent) and crude fibre (2.40 per cent) upto six months of storage followed by 60 per cent CO2 concentration.
