Knitted fabric

The objective of the present study is to produce base layer winter active sportswear fabrics using natural and synthetic fibres and their blends which will deliver good comfort properties. Polyester, wool and bamboo fibres were selected for this study. Polyester is the most common fibre used in sportswear, wool is increasingly being used in sportswear and bamboo is a relatively new fibre that offers properties suitable for base layer sportswear. Bamboo is also regarded as a 'green' and eco-sustainable fibre.

While it is recognised that knitted fabrics may have their place in firefighting PPC, especially for undergarments, from the point of view of fire performance, strength and presentation, woven fabric constructions appear to be more suitable for work wear applications. Hence, this study is concerned with developing and testing a range of functional, woven Station Wear fabrics designed to enhance flame protection, durability and thermo-physiological comfort properties. In trying to improve all three aspects, a compromise in the properties of fabrics developed would be very likely.

In this study, an experimental work is presented to determine the effects of fourteen different knit structures of 80% Lambswool-20% Polyamide knitted outerwear fabrics, on the dimensional properties; pilling resistance, abrasion resistance, bursting strength, air permeability and bending rigidity.
