The administration of medications is central to anaesthetists’ care of patients. Errors are inevitable in any human endeavour, but should be distinguished from violations. The incidence of medication errors in anaesthesia has been estimated as 1 per 13 000 administrations, excluding errors in recording. Adverse medication events follow a proportion of these errors. Labelling is a key element of medication safety. There is a long-standing need for improvements in the labelling of ampoules and vials. An international standard exists for labelling syringes used during anaesthesia (ISO 26825).

In this paper we extend our work described in (Dinu et al., 2011) by adding more conjugational rules to the labelling system introduced there, in an attempt to capture the entire dataset of Romanian verbs extracted from (Barbu, 2007), and we employ machine learning techniques to predict a verb’s correct label (which says what conjugational pattern it follows) when only the infinitive form is given.

We present the psycholinguistically motivated task of predicting human plausibility judgements for verb-role-argument triples and introduce a probabilistic model that solves it. We also evaluate our model on the related role-labelling task, and compare it with a standard role labeller. This paper presents a method for inducing the parts of speech of a language and partof-speech labels for individual words from a large text corpus. Vector representations for the part-of-speech of a word are formed from entries of its near lexical neighbors. A dimensionality reduction creates a space representing the syntactic categories of unambiguous words. We present a general architecture for efficient and deterministic morphological analysis based on memory-based learning, and apply it to morphological analysis of Dutch. The system makes direct mappings from letters in context to rich categories that encode morphological boundaries, syntactic class labels, and spelling changes. Both precision and recall of labeled morphemes are over 84% on held-out dictionary test words and estimated to be over 93% in free text.

Semantic role labels are the representation of the grammatically relevant aspects of a sentence meaning. Capturing the nature and the number of semantic roles in a sentence is therefore fundamental to correctly describing the interface between grammar and meaning. In this paper, we compare two annotation schemes, PropBank and VerbNet, in a task-independent, general way, analysing how well they fare in capturing the linguistic generalisations that are known to hold for semantic role labels, and consequently how well they grammaticalise aspects of meaning.
