Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease with no effective treatments. Lactobacillus casei (L. casei) and Lactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri) exhibited therapeutic effects on several cancers, but their roles in pancreatic cancer are unknown. This study aims to explore how L. casei & L. reuteri influence pancreatic cancer and the underlying mechanisms.

This study aimed at standardization of plain and probiotic fruit yoghurt by blending with fruits such as banana, papaya, sapota at a ratio of 5%, 10% and 15%. Among the different fruits used banana, sapota incorporated fruit pulp secured higher sensory scores whereas papaya Plain probiotic yoghurt was prepared using three different probiotic cultures such as Lactobacillus plantarum NCDC 25, Lactobacillus casei NCDC 298, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, NCDC 19 along with yoghurt culture.

Increased industrialization, urbanization and mechanization are being associated with the dramatic changes in perception of health beneficial food which in turn has led to a significant decrease in the occurrence of chronic non-communicable diseases viz. obesity, diabetes-mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, stroke and hypertension and some types of cancer. A total of seven microorganisms were isolated from different probiotic sources. The nicotine reducing activity of isolates was tested by general analytical techniques. Amongst them isolates BC6 and BC7 possess maximum nicotine reducing activity therefore it was selected for further investigation. Both isolates could utilize up to 1 g/l nicotine as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen, and optimum nicotine reducing activity obtained at pH 7 by inoculating with inoculum size of 1 McFarland standard units.

The present study explored the traditional Indian fermented food samples for potential probiotic strains with superior probiotic properties to that of commercially available strain. A total of 102 food samples were collected aseptically and 200 isolates were purified using MRS media. 132 were identified as Gram-positive bacteria and 43 were identified as yeast cultures. On the basis of morphological and biochemical properties, 120 isolates were provisionally identified as Lactobacillus spp.

Lassi is a popular fermented product consumed mostly in northern India during summer as refreshing drink. The present study was carried out with incorporation of carrot extract as 5, 10, 15 and 20 per cent levels and represented as T1, T2, T3 and T4, respectively. Among these levels, 15 per cent level of addition was found to be acceptable by sensory panel (9 point hedonic scale) and was used for the production of synbiotic lassi with Lactobacillus casei (NCDC 298). The prepared synbiotic lassi was subjected to physicochemical and microbial analysis with control and probiotic lassi.
